We were having a problem getting a truck to go into lean cruise. Is there a certain area that is a litle trick? We adjusted the switches, target a/f, and much more. It would just learn real quick and then go to 14.7. It would sit a 15.2 -15.3 for about 20 seconds and that was it.

Lean cruse tables are nonfunctional in anything but a 04 GTO. It's written into the code to ignore them :( US EPA won't allow it.

Really? There is no way around this in the programming? We commanded it to stay in open loop and we were able to smooth out the VE table to get us to 15.2- 15.3. It seems to work ok, but i know this not the correct way to do it.

I'm still sitting on the fence on this debate, outside the US where US vehicles are imported (Saudi Arabia, Australia to name a couple) and lean cruise is legal there is genuine reasons that people would want to allow lean cruise.
The bypass is 'easy' to do. The part that I struggle with is if it is any worse than a guy who fits one of those Ebay sensor foolers to make the ECM think the engine is cold, or the guy who alters the MAF in some way. They will all alter the original emissions level specs that GM got the vehicle certified with.

Cheers,
Ross

We just need to lobby the politicans with gas prices like they are to "lean" on the EPA over it. Bet a 2000 car/truck with lean cruise STILL does better on emissions than a 95-older OBD1 car/truck....

Give "US" a break....

I was just going to ask this myself, but did a search first. How about useing the custom o/s? Will that work?

Ya, that's how I do it. COS3 and table b3647, I use it to command higher AFR in the cruise areas for my driving. Don't know how much it helps though I like to hear the whistle from under my hood a little to much, lol.

Do I need o/s 3 or can I use o/s 5?
