I have a 2000 LS1 and when I download other peoples tunes especially 2001+ and I try to do a compare with my stock tune it tells me the operating systems are different and cant be compared..Why?

Also, could I just flash my computer with a 2001 OS and just start from there? There are a few tunes that have the same heads/cam and I would like to try and use them.

Another question, There VIN is different then my of course, but does it cost another license to be able to us their tun file?

You can only compare the same OS's. If you have OS12258459, you can only look at other tunes with OS12258459.

(FYI - that's not a real OS #)

This is tedious, but if you really need to you can do this:

1. make a copy of your tune file and save it with a different filename (e.g. "compare.tun"),
2. open 2 instances of the tune tool (one on the other OS file "other.tun" and one on "compare.tun"),
3. copy each table from "other.tun" to "compare.tun" (do this table-by-table, using copy-with-labels, paste-with-labels),
4. save the file "compare.tun",
5. close both instances of ther tunetool, and open "compare.tun",
6. now you can compare.

Tedious... but that's all there is for now.

If you want to copy your current tables to a later OS file, then reverse the copy direction in step 3, and in step 4 save "other.tun" instead.

You can use a newer tune but will want to start with the 99 to 02 conversion file or similar to modify the new OS to your 2000 hardware - others should also chime in but that is my understanding.

If you goto 2002 OS 12212156, then it allows you the option of running COS5 (which has nitrous in addition to boost, and a TPS VE table).
