My Laptop just died, So I am looking for a new one.
I noticed EFILive recommend's WinXp.
Is it possible to run Vista with EFILive or do I need to stay with XP?

Thank's.

Jorge,

You can run Vista but you will need a high-end (more expensive) laptop.

If you run XP you can get by with a cheaper laptop.

I recommend at least 1GB RAM in general.

Cheers,
Joe

If you are looking for a laptop to primarily do your car stuff, there are laptops with XP on ebay for like $350 in great condition. I bought one, it was like new, 1.7ghz proc., 1g memory, 80 gig drive....really works great.

Doh! I just noticed I only have 384 MB of ram, and efi will be here on wednesday. Will that be a problem? What are the minimum system requirements? (XP home)

I just bought this on ebay
here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170228253880)
I'm wondering if it will work with mine, I had no time to research and it was only $0.01 so I figured what the heck.

If it doesn't work you can sell that at profit... :D

Open the bottom of your laptop and compare.

If you have a Dell, then search Dell's website to see if yours takes "PC2-5300" type... it probably does.

Doh! I just found it and it can't take that one. Maybe my wifes can, or maybe someone here reading this can use it.

I don't know if they are compatible... if they have the same form (all the pins line up, the locking notches line up) and if the new one is faster, then the new one may (or may not) work.

EFILive itself is not particularly demanding. If you can have a dedicated LT it will work with most anything.
I have run E-38 stuff with XP 800mhz with 256 ram. Paul says all EFILive functions can run below USB1 speeds so even USB2 is not an advantage.
It is all the other stuff we load on that bogs them down.

Having said the above this one is a 1800 mhz and can do it all and yet is not noticeably faster with EFIlive.
