can someone list out the steps to licensing an 06 gto. I read the calilbration and from what I understand the tranny is licensed seperate of the engine calibration so do I license that and do another read for the trans calibration? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum 0rion.

I don't know the exact process as I've not tested one of those PCM/TCM's yet, but I believe you should be able to read both the PCM and TCM with out licensing. Once you decide to perform a write, you should be able to license either at that time. An EFILive license includes 1 PCM and 1 TCM.

thanks for the welcome, check out my join date. :D I'm a reader although evidently I haven't been reading the right things. :D My bro stopped by while ago with his 06 and I did a quick read on it but no trans tables are there. I know they're different than my 04 and 98's I have. Just trying to figure out what I need to do to get to his trans tables. He's left so I'm kinda up the creek now until I can get his car back over here and figure it out.

WOW - Welcome back then :D

When you are doing the reads, you will need to specify the PCM and the TCM

got it figured out I think. I have to read the calibration on a t42 also. I just read the e40 for the LS2. Wasn't aware they were seperate.

They are treated seperate but FYI will only use ONE license for both, not two.

I saw that as a search result that it only used 1 vin license. When my bro was here I just quickly read the ecm and we were talking while I did the read so I wasn't really paying much attention to it. I wasn't aware I had to read the E40 and then the T42. Got it figured out though now so I'll go back and read the T42 when I see him next time. Maybe this will help someone down the road. I searched forever and read the manual and it just never clicked that I had to do 2 reads.

There is pro's and con's in doing it the way we do, in the end the pro's out weighed the con's, especially for shops doing mail order tuning.

Do you know if it's in the manual somewhere that 06's need to be read twice? I couldn't find it but I also didn't sit down and read it word for word. I figured I'd find it faster through searches on here but it ended up taking quite a bit of time doing it that way also.
Might I suggest a pop up in the software when reading an e40 that alerts you that the tranny calibration isn't being read along with the engine calibration? It evidently isn't much of a problem really if there aren't threads here about it....maybe I'm just a dumbass. :D

Be on your guard!!!

Don't change o/s's in them damn Aussie GTO's or do full flashes....

I had a guy in here last week with an E40 GTO... I did a TIS flash to clean out the garbage tune he got from some "professional" and, well, when I was done the thing was dead.....

So I figure....Hey, I'll just to a TIS security learn and get this guy up and running.....

Well, for those of you who have tried to change PCMs or O/Ss on LS2 GTOs, What a f**king nightmare to get it back online.....

It's not like the domestic built cars!!! Be carefull!

Ross, any tips on changing O/Ss in LS2 GTO's to save some major headaches????

Chuck, we've been here before, remember you said something about you were fed up with the EFILive software telling you that you can't full flash certain GTO's with new OS's? so you did it with HPT and it killed it!. Again that is the reason, we check to make sure you won't kill the ECM by doing it, just cause we're nice guys :)
I was not aware that TIS killed them too.
Hey, don't blame the GTO, the ECM is made in the US of A !, Delphi must have sent us all the old crap they didn't want to fit in the 06 Corvette

Currently it would require a 100% flash, meaning the Bootblock, OS and calibrations to cure this problem. EFILive and everyone else does not touch the bootblock as it is supposed to be always recoverable if you don't flash that. At some stage we should add the option to do a 100% write of the flash.

Ross

hmmmm, so should I not do a write entire to patch his vats? Other than that I really see no need to do a full flash on his car. It will be all calibration changes.

As long as you use the Tune file read from the ECM OR you don't get the warning about the mismatch then you will be fine.
We won't allow it to happen, you will see a warning like the one below come up. As far as I know all other tuning packages including TechII do not check this, hence the dead E40's people talk about.

Ross

thanks, the file will definitely be from his car. Should there ever be a mismatch though if using the original file? I wouldn't think so.

I have done full reflashes on 3 Mafless E40 ls2's using they're original (modified) tunes with MAF & traction control patches. Never had an issue, mine has been fully reflashed 3 or 4 times although I do try to avoid it.

As long as you don't see that warning screen then you are fine.

thanks guys. I'm not going to worry about it and keep an eye out for that warning pop up.

Thanks Ross!!! You've made me out to look like some sort of Controller Murderer!!!! I've done nothing like that!

Actually, this kid came in with a hacked up tune from some GTO specialist and also talked about fuel guage problems.....

So, while EFI LIVE was sitting in my office....I figured, "HEY, why not Mongoose/TIS flash him back to stock and go from there.....

Well, BEWARE!, you don;t have to crank learn or security learn Chevys after a TIS reflash, but the DAMN GTO sat there dead with a security issue.....

Easy, it's only 10 mins I thought to re-link it with TIS..... WRONG!

The Aussie built hot rod don't play that way!:sly:

At 2am I finally use Live's vats patch and got him rolling with his original tune....

What a pest...When he comes back, I gotta call the dealer and make him give me BCM secret codes and PIM #'s and junk like that......:bad:

But ROSS, I got around your "NO FULL FLASH FOR THE T43":hihi: I'll be testing an 06 T43 Vette this week to see if it likes driving with an 08 T43 os.

On the T43, if you know where we can buy some I know a couple of guys that need them after some idiot killed the ones they had :angel_innocent:

Hey Chuck,

How did you go flashing the 08 T43 file into the 06? Which tool did you use?

Cheers!
