I was doing some autoVE last night car was running good actually a little rich. Was looking it over tonight and noticed this. What might have caused it? Im talking about the white marks I noticed a little in every tip.

Any ideas? I did hit third hard once and thought I heard some kinda like pop from the exhaust think that might of caused it. Logs dont show any knock or any sign of running too lean.

If any thing, the intial rich tune from the AutoVE process could leave some black carbon. Not sure what would cause the white

Also my car ran much better with the rich VE tune I went back to my old tune last night and afr in wot is around 12.6 where the autoVE WOT was about 12.2 or so and ran much better. Why would that be?
Here is some WOT on my original tune the one above is the autoVE.

Spdfrk,

Some things to check:
- check which (if any) spark plugs have a similar deposit,
- check if coolant level is staying constant,
- did you add anything to your fuel...?

Have not checked the plugs yet but the coolant is fine and nothing is added to the fuel. Could it be from a bit of oil being sucked through the pcv?

Oil tends to produce black carbon and an oily deposit.

If your still running cats, its probably a mixture of platinum and ceramic dust .

Now that I can see the pictures at home . that looks like gob of muffler paste.

^ That could be possible Roy. I am not running cats either.

Yes, that gob looks like muffler joint sealant...

I was looking at the edge of the tips, it looks like a grey/white deposit on the outer tips... do you have a not-so-close-up pic of the tips...?

Joe the tips are polished when they get dirty it looks like that its not actually anything from the exhaust you are seeing there. I still cant figure out why my car was running so much better WOT on the AUTOVE tune. Would the maf have anything to do with that since my tune was not SD before? Looks like it just reads off my PE table though under WOT. The VE tune was richer and the car felt faster for sure.
