The instructions arent too good in the writeup.

Have you upgraded to any of the Beta FW? If not, update your V2 to 2.04.72 with the programmer in the V7 folder in the start menu. Then download all the beta stuff (7.5.4.66 and 8.1.1) from the main page. On your V2 go into the menu somewhere (sorry cant be more specific) and select update bootblock. Then your V2 will be in dead-poll mode. Open EFILive Explorer under the V8.1 folder in the start menu and go to the firmware tab and browse for the latest one (v2.05.20) and flash it in. You should be set after that, just make sure you go to firmware 2.04.72 then the bootblock then (use EFILive explorer from now on) flash the firmware 2.05.20.

I just upgraded to 8.1 and thought it was pretty straightforward. It was time consuming, but not too hard. What version do you currently have and did you thoroughly read the "readme" document yet?

If FlashScan has boot block V2.04.xx or earlier, please perform these steps:
1. Program firmware V2.04.72.
2. Use FlashScan’s menu option to upgrade the boot block to V2.05.08.
3. Program firmware V2.05.17(0519).
If FlashScan has boot block V2.05.xx (where xx is less than 08) please perform these steps:
1. Program boot block V2.05.08(0426).
2. Program firmware V2.05.17(0519).
If FlashScan has boot block V2.04.xx or earlier
you will use the old firmware update.exe
hold ctrl while plugging the V2 into you PC. (dead pol mode)'
to update the firmware then go from there.
after the BBL update is installed and V8 you will use EFILive explorer
to update firmware/boot block.

Hi - related question...
I'm looking into updating the PC software & FlashScan V2 firmware boot block so that I can do serial logging when it comes to doing my autove (I've got v7.4.2 on the PC tune tool; and firmware 2.04.66 on the Flashscan & haven't done an update since buying EFILive last year).
Before I start, I'm reading & re-reading the readme files & various threads, & have a bit of brain-fade...where does the 2.04.72 firmware file come from?
It says above to update to 2.04.72 THEN download v7.5.4 and 8.1.1.
But I'm thinking I must have to update the FlashScan file on the PC somehow first (the file in the V7 folder at the moment is V2_4_60), in order to do the FlashScan update to 2.04.72...I guess my question is how to get the 2.04.72 file onto the PC?
I know it must be simple & is a silly question, because I can't find it mentioned in any of the threads I've searched...
I'm also wondering whether the V8 on the EFILive website is still a 'test' version, or has it been fully released now?
Thanks

it should be here:
C:\Program Files\EFILive\V8.1\Firmware

First update to the latest V7.5 and V8.1 from www.efilive.com/downloads (http://www.efilive.com/downloads).
Then update to 2.04.72... the 2.04.72 firmware and the V2 flashing tool are located in C:\Program Files\EFILive\V7.5 that was just installed.
Then read the new V8.1 readme again that was just installed.

any ideas?Ok, so you programmed in the new bootblock...
Now, while dead poll is flashing (yellow leds alternating), flash in the new firmware... its filename is FSProgV2_05_20.efw.
When this is finished, then check the bootblock and firmware versions.

No, don't do that yet!!!
If you only have bootblock V2.05.04, then you MUST first flash in firmware V2.05.14.
Then you can flash in the V2.05.08 bootblock.
Then you can flash in the V2.05.21 firmware.

ok so i did it ... did the hole boot block update , then firmware update following right after the boot block ..
i go to boot up my box it says the hole licence update deal.... do all that looks to have the new firmware
this is what the box says in the license inf. aria on my box ..
Firmware 2.05.20
date aug.06 2008
boot block 2.05.04
date oct 16 2007
im guessing this is not good
in order for me to git the explorer to see the info (shows the same info as in the box) i have to put the box in dead poll mode for it to see the box...
and i did flash the Flash scan files not the autocal files....
i appreciate the help...

Id try to upgrade the firmware back to 2.05.14 first, if that doesnt work then try to flash the boot block to 2.05.08.
If that fails, then I think Paul will have to send you a patch that allows you to downgrade your fw to .14 so you can do the boot block properly.

1 Put FlashScan into deadpoll manually (holding Ctrl key).
2 Reprogram the firmware back to V2.05.14.
3 Then program the boot block to V2.05.08
4 Then program the firmware to V2.05.21
The only potential problem is step 2 may be denied due to the boot block not allowing previous firmware to be flashed in. i.e. you might not be able to go from V2.05.20 back to V2.05.14. I can't remember if boot block V2.05.04 enforces that or not.

V2.05.20 will be fine.
I think V2.05.21 was an internal version, it became V2.06.01 which became V2.06.02 internally here at EFILive.
V2.06.02 will be released this weekend along with updated V7 and V8 software.
You will need to update your boot block to V2.06.02 and then the firmware to V2.06.02 once the new software is released.
