Hi,

my swap ( 2007 5.3 LMG/ 4L60E/BCM, underhood fusebox/'07 cluster and lots of the '07 harness into '97 Tahoe) is comming to the end... still some glitches to sort out but I am working on them.

Here are some info about my configuration:

VIN 1GKEK13KXSJ731636
Engine 5.3L Gen-IV
Transmission 4L60/65/70E Auto
PCM flash 2Mb
Operating System 12605898
Calibration 12605897
OS ID NE
Cal ID
BCC YNAU

Cal file name 12605898.calz

Engine Operation 12605905 $3E51C0B
Engine Diagnostics 12610350 $B0E1976B

In the moment I am stuck in a "no crank situation"..
My crank relais does not switch. It seems that the IGN signals from the modified ’97 IGN switch work.

I measure at BCM PIN C1,2:

0V at IGN off, 4V in RUN and 2,98V with the IGN in START,

BCM PIN C1, 4 shows:

5V at OFF, 4V in RUN and 4,26V in START

I hear a click when I turn the key in the run pos, all warning lights in the cluster turn out except the MIL lamp and that’s it.

Then I had a look with EFi live (see attached pics--). I am using a cal file where the VATs patch is already applied and the VATs are disabled.

I read here in the EFIlive forum that with different BCM /ECU a VAT re-link is necessary. I tried to do so but the attached error message appeared.

I checked the tranny linkage and if the P/N switch is in the correct position, that works as expected

By the way I see that AC pressure switch DTC in the scan tool… how can I disable this…… ?

As I mentioned earlier EFIlive and the related knowledge seems to be my weak point.. I have to work on this

This is what I tried:

I changed the VIN in the ECU and TCM to that of the BCM. Still the same error message when trying to do a VAT relink. I searched something about a VAT relearn but I found only a parameter in the VAT system which enables the VAT auto relearn. In the VAT parameters the only thing I changed from the initial settings is the VATS type, I changed it from 2 to 3.

So what is it really about with the VAT, re link, relearn, VAT patch and so?

What has to be done if I connect different ECU /TCM and BCM to disable the anti theft and get the thing cranking?
All wiring including IGN switch, P/N switch and run/crank relais is ok, just the crank relais is not energized...
Am I running in the wrong direction ?

The $FE response code is possibly caused by a bug in an old firmware version in FlashScan V2. Please make sure you are using the latest FlashScan V2 boot block (V2.06.02) and firmware (V2.06.04).
That updated firmware is available once you have downloaded and installed V8.1.2 from here:
http://www.efilive.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=124
(I recommend instlling the latest 7.5.5 as well, if you have not already done so).

After installing V8.1.2, connect FlashScan then run the EFILive Explorer program. You should be notified that updated boot block and/or firmware exists. Follow the onscreen prompts to upgrade.

Paul

I will do that first thing tomorrow when I return from work.... I hoped that my problem is something like that, 'cause all the wiring seems to be ok..

My current Version of EFIlive is V7.5.4 (build 66)

'hope I get it cranking tomorrow...

I keep you posted.

By the way are my symthons those of a not relinked ECU and BCM...no crank at all, the crank relais is not energized from the ECU...

Thx Harald

Is the BCM reading the coded key too?, normally the BCM must clear the key as valid before it will send an OK to start to the ECM.

Hi Paul,
which coded key are you thinking of.... something like the passlock IGN key with the coil inside?

As this is a swap into a 1997 Tahoe without passlock system there is no coded key present. I thought by disabling the VAT system this problem is solved?

Anything in addition EFIlive could tell me what parameter is missing to get the ECU to switch the crank relais?
