Welcome to the site! I assume you can do the grunt work on the swap, you're on here asking about the PCM stuff. Yes you can probably use that PCM but its a 98 vortec black box PCM that is very outdated. I would highly recommend doing an 0411 PCM swap, it allows you to run all the LSx OSs and the custom operating systems plus has finer control of tables. People report smoother engines and more power from using the 0411 PCM plus it doesnt have the 5800rpm hard limiter.

On the EFILive side of things, you could do it with a FlashScan V1 Commercial license (personal wont let you reflash Operating Systems which you will need to do) or buy a FlashScan V2. Basically the V2 is newer, has more in/outputs, and will allow for standalone reading and flashing without a laptop.

I would look online or at a local junkyard, you're looking for the PCM from an 01-02 Chevy Express Van as they are first gen engines using a gen 3 PCM. Im not sure about where else to get them, but Im sure you can probably get one from someone on here. I havent done the swap just heard lots of good things about it.

This PCM was used in the 99-02 Camaro/Firebird, the 99-02 Silverado/Sierra, the 99-02 Vette, the 01-02 Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon and the 01-02 Express vehicles with the 4.8, 5.3, 5.7 and 6.0 liter engines. There could be more, this is just some I know of.

Ah, thanks Al. Its just the calibration from the Express Van thats used. So pretty much any 99-02 LS1 PCM will work.

P.M. me your E-mail address and I will send you a copy of the wiring file.
I have never done a 4.3 to 5.7 swap but, 2 other people have told me that except for the 2 additional injectors the wiring is the same as the V-8.

The VIN that is in it now will work if it is a V8 truck, if that is OK with the prior owner of the PCM.

Have him leave the Express Van tune in it and put in your V.I.N. Have him turn off V.A.T.S. and delete Generator codes, put in your gear ratio and tire size while he is flashing it.

Here's the list of vehicles that used the 12200411 PCM.
Easy to find in junk yards.

You're cool now. To use the pcm, you need to make sure it is a 5.7/4L60E or whatever engine/trans combo you are running.
Some of those trucks had 4.3/4L60E,5.0/4L60E, and also 5.7/4L80E combos. I've got most of the combos in TCII format. I don't know how they will transfer to EFILive, but you can probably find the right file here.

If you want V.A.T.S. to be operational it still functions just fine. I did the 0411 swap in my vortec s10 4.3l and just did the 30 min relearn and all worked fine. Also if your truck is a 4x4 you need to use a 4x4 tune outta a s10 and just copy the engine segment over for the 5.7l.

Im considering doing the swap. The 1998 Vortec computer(I'm finding out) doesn't even have half the parameters to mess with as the LSx style pcm....Would I just need to find a 0411 pcm that has a V6 tune in it to work with my 1998 V6 Vortec?

GAMEOVER, any 411 PCM will work. You will just need to put the correct OS and calibration file into it.
