When changing an ECM on an LMM truck, you may run into a problem with the remote start not working. The truck also may or may not have the MIL illuminated. By using the EFILive Flashscan V2 interface you can program the new ECM injector flow data to match the GPM and get this problem resolved. DTC codes P268C, P268D, P268E, P268F, P2690, P2691, P2692, P2693 are the codes that are set when the injector calibration is incorrect.

To copy the flow rates,

1. Connect the V2 cable to the diagnostic port
2. Press "F3 Tuning Tool"
3. Next, press "F2 Configuration"
4. Next, press "F1 Read GPM Inject" If error message comes up, see below.
5. Next, press "F3 Prog ECM Inject"
6. That's it, easy enough.

If you get an error message at step 4, you must follow this procedure below, and then go back to above procedure.

1. At the main V2 screen, press "F4 Options"
2. Next, press "F1 Setup"
3. Next, press "F1 Edit settings"
4. Under the settings menu, the first item is labeled File Sys:, press left button to switch from SD Card to Internal. With this set at internal, press the Ok button. A message will come up saying "Failed".. Next press OK again.
5. Now we are back at the "Setup" menu, press the "Back" button.
6. Now we are at the "Options" menu. Press "F2 File System"
7. At the File System Menu, hit "F3 Format File Sys"
8. Next screen is a "Warning All Data will be erased", press Yes.
9. File system will format and you can now go back up to the above procedure to read and copy injector calibration data.

What we have confirmed apart from DTC's being set to stop the remote start, is there is a counter in a 'new' ECM that allows it to start in any vehicle up to 254 times without the theft learn procedure, during this time it will relink to the vehicles VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft System). Every time the engine is run and stopped this counter is decremented by one.

Once the counter hit's zero the ECM is locked to that vehicle and will only allow that engine to run. What was confirmed is if that counter is not at zero then the remote start will not function.

Rather than turn the key on / off 254 times you can force that number to zero in EFILive. In the Tune Tool if you use the locking function (Go to menu item 'Flash' then 'PCM Security'). Choose the correct ECM type and press status, once the software has finished checking a few things click on the Tab that says VAT Relink. Where it has the IGN Cycles number, enter 1. If it's already 0 then don't bother reading any further. So, now you have 1 in the box, press the IGN Cycles button and turn the ign key off.
Give the truck a few starts / stops then retry the remote start.

This is only applicable to new ECM's that have never been in a vehicle before, however, I have seen TechII reset this counter back to 254 as well when upgrading the OS, and I've also seen the ECM do it after a full reflash with EFILive, so it is worth checking if the remote start stopped working for no apparent reason.

Cheers,
Ross

Yeah, I could have been working on the E69 instead :moon1:

Cheers,

P.S - It was a joke, the E69 Emails have only just stopped!

Darn. I tried all of the above and it's still not working. Anymore advice. The injector thing isn't working. I got the VATS okay. Remote start is still a no go. 29XX something code. driveside door ajar.

On EDIT: I am still getting an error code on step 4 even after following the second set of instructions.

The current firmware version is 2.6.10.
It would be worth updating to that before trying to diagnose the problem any further.

I'm geting ready to put a ECM in a LMM today just wondering if all problems are resolved for the remote start issue's?

Once i reprogramed the injector flow rates, the problems that I previously had with no remote start, and CEL were gone.

Make sure you upload the stock tune from the old one and down load that tune into the new one. There are some differences somewhere behind curtain even if the OS are the same. Then set the injector flow rates and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the replies, the ECM was ordered through the ecm outlet pre programmed per vin#. I found that the truck started right off without relearning the VATS I thought that was weird. The only thing I had to do was programm injector flow rates and set ign cycles in the pcm security tab to 1 thats it and everything worked fine. I wonder why I did not have to relearn the VATS? When I tried to do it in the pcm secrity tab I got a error 012 or something not sure if thats that exact error code. Any body else have to go through a VATS relearn on a LMM? I will start a new thread on this also, Thanks.

If you check, sometimes I think they disable Vats or set the relearn counter to 0 or something. Not sure.

Is there any need to use this on the LBZ ECMs/GPMs?

if you replace the ECM

Have the "F" key combinations changed from the original procedure above? I was able to use the procedure, but with different function keys, though the descriptions are the same. Maybe an update changed them.
