This problem is only for my 1998 Vortec.

For the life of me, I still can't figure out why my data logs won't link to my tune file. When I highlight a section in a data log it won't automatically link to the tune file....Even if I make a Timing MAP in the Scan tool, the info doesn't correspond/or is way off with the info in the tune file...sometimes off by like 10 degrees at certain points.

The only thing I can think of is the warning I get when I open my Tune file and then open a data log i get this warning: "Vin mismatch was detected between Scan Tool(Vin#123456789) and Tune Tool(Vin#NA)....Vin numbers are from 2 different vehicle's"...The tune tool will not let me save my Vin# for some reason, always shows NA:nixweiss:

are your display units setup exactally the same on both the scan and tune? (i.e. standard, metric...) I had a simmilar issue and found I had a few settings different. I currently tune and scan everything in metric, except MPH. and it all works well.

I'll try setting everything to metric and then I'll try imperial...

Which controller did that use, the Vortec one?

I might have to do the 411 pcm switch!

I don't even have access to a Vortec controller. Depending on what you are doing with the truck, that wouldn't be a bad idea.

BTW, I have a bunch of wiring harness parts:

No, not at all...If I buy that from you all i would need is a 411 pcm

S10Warehouse generally keeps a pretty good supply of them:

you shouldn't need a whole wiring harness. just the PCM, the connectors, and a couple of pins for the couple of splices that need to be done. otherwise its just simply moving pins from the 98 PCM connectors to the 411 connectors. unless the s10 vortec setups are way different than the full size trucks, but I wouldn't think they are.

Hi Joe,
I've tried that....I went from all metric to all imperial with no luck....Do you have the linking/highlighting options checked in the tunetool options...?

And make sure you're logging the pids with the right prefix (i.e. GM.xxx vs SAE.xxx) as mentioned on the axes of the tables in the tunetool.

Yes, linking is checked

I uploaded a stock tune file and a data log. Maybe it'll work on some one else's computer...-Especially-The spark linking from scan tool to tuning tool...

Anyone got 2-3 minutes, to try this.....
Maybe it's something I'm doing/or did wrong

That's weird. I wonder if the Vortec controller doesn't use a VIN, so efilive doesn't know how to correlate the tune with the scan. This doesn't seem to make since since the information message box just said it isn't a problem, just a warning.

Maybe it's something I'm doing/or did wrongI loaded your log/tune files...

The the vin is mismatched between the log and the tune... I am not sure if this matters.

I could not get linking to occur... I looked thru various tables in the tune and none of them say "Link:" next to the pid name on the axes of the tables...

to be able to link, the pid names must say "Link:" in front of them when you look at the table axis pids... I think this is why you're not linking.

Look at this file: C:\Program Files\EFILive\V7.5\Configuration\cal_link.txt
it defines the link pids... you may be able to edit in the tables/pids you want linked... make sure you use the same pid names as shown in the scantool PIDs tab.

Also, unrelated to linking, you're logging 25 channels... you may want to delete one pid to get down to 24 or less channels (delete BARO or LOAD) to get update rate up to 10 samples/second (instead of 5).

Nevinsb,
Thats what I was thinking about the VIN# mismatch...

Joecar,
Yeah I'm usually down to 24 pids or less, I don't know why I logged 25 pids on that log....I'll look at the C:\Program Files\EFILive\V7.5\Configuration\cal_link.txt to make sure "Link:" is front of the Pid names...

Also, when I do a read flash of the controller, it shows the Vin# in the Tune file(where it's suppose to be) but when I save it and open it back up, the Vin# is shown as NA...

Try writing the VIN using the scantool.

I tried it already, and i was going to try it using DVT but the controller doesn't support it...

Joecar,
I'll check on the "Link:" part in a little bit and see what's up...

There is no reference to "vortec" controllers in the cal_link file. If you open another tun file ie. LS1 car, it will link to the log file, even with the incorrect VIN. I have tried several variations of Vortec to attempt to get it to link, so far no good.

Since there is no reference to the Vortec in the cal_link.txt file, maybe Paul or Ross has to add something in the Tune tool progam to make it work. Or just what is the exact name to add in the cal_link.txt file to get it to link.

The section names in the cal_link file need to be the same as the folder names in the Program Files\EFILive\V7.5\Calibrations folder.

So for vortec, you'd put the link definitions under a section name of [VRB]

Ok,
So, since there isn't a Vortec cal_link...I pretty much need to make my own...No wonder I couldn't find it...:)
Gotcha...:good:

Thanks Blacky,
Oops I mean Paul:grin:

Blacky I tried using [VRB] at the beginning of the section again with a simple VE Table link and still it doesn't work. The [LS1] section doesn't have a [LS1A] or [LS1B] identifier to lead it as the Calibration folder shows. There must be something else to it. This is what I had tried to use. I put this text before and after the LS1 section.

[VRB]
;Main VE Table
B0101.ROW=SAE.RPM
B0101.COL=SAE.MAP

Sorry, ignore my comment about the folder names matching the section names. That was wrong.

For some reason the [VRB] section should be called [L31]

Here's the full list:

LS1B [LS1]
ALLA [ALI]
ALLB [AL6]
LB7 [DMX]
LLY [DMX]

L52 [L52]
LL8 [LL8]
E35 [LBZ]
E35 [LMM]
