01 s-10 to LS1 swap q

Friend of mine whats to swap an LS1 in his '01 s-10 with the 4.3 vortec.

What Im wondering is, can I use his stock computer and just put an ls1 tune on it?

We're going to use a plug and play harness and such that is based off of what year ls1 we choose.

As I understand there are different computers for different ranges of LS1s, so if it is possible to make his s-10 comp turn ls1, what year(s) ls1s should we look for?

The S10 PCM will work. You would need to get a 1999 thru 2002 LS1 type setup. The 1997-1998 setup will not work.
