USe the v8 program to set up a v2 for BBL.
I use a V1 for BB and ver 7.5 is the latest upgrade. I actually loaded PIDs to black box while connected to PCM. Forgot to mention I use COS 200303. Logs correctly straight to computer but BB logging the same PIDs 60% are showing N/A. Am suspecting a failed cable
Missed that bit, sorry. I didn't realise a v1.2 could do BBL.
Problem sounds a bit like in this thread: https://forum.efilive.com/showthread...into-flashscan
Wish it where that simple.
Your PIDs tab shows 19 selected pid and 0 selected channels...?
Try this:
on the FlashScan Control Panel (for V1) do this:
- select Fast (10 f/s),
- set Max Frames Per Log to zero (i.e. unlimited),
- click Validate;
- follow the instructions it tells you (it will tell you to connect V1 to vehicle and let it validate, and then to bring it back to PC).
Followed our instructions up to validate, was warned all log files would be erased, clicked yes to continue and was told Flashcan is now ready for validating pids.No further instructions.
I thought all colored pids where selected. How do you select channels?
Ok... (it's been a long time since I did V1 BBL)... I sent Paul an email for further guidance
( the channel count should not be showing up as zero )
It's been four years since I tuned my ride. Fell into a brand new hole here. Flashscan control panel reports 1 total log file plus time/log @ 01:13:38 and total time @ 01:13:38. Looks like its gorged.
Try this: click the Progam Pids button.
I don't see a Program Pids function. I did take the flashcan out to PCM but all that happened is that my VIN disappeared from Scan when I reconnected.
Joe,
I located the window that tells you to take flashcan to PCM plug it in and hit start/stop button, wait 5/10 seconds to validate and plug it back in to computer. Well I still get same error message about selecting channels. Had apparently set flashscan for validate and then tried to look at phantom BB log file when the validate ballon came up.
The Program Pids button is labelled PIDs and has a red down-arrow.
To validate pids, you click PIDs first, then click validate, then click disconnect, take V1 to vehicle, pug in in, hit run/stop, wait 30 seconds, then hit run/stop, and bring V1 back to PC...
Embarrassingly I figured that out. I followed the Help file for validating the PIDs. Seems my FSP 1.2 is stuck in Validate pids mode. I can load Pids when connected to PCM but can't BB log, Log light won't stay on.
Ok, validated PIDs at PCM, now you have to bring your V1 back to your PC, let V7 see the validation, and then program PIDs again.
Can't get past validate. Believe the reason is that the Pids won't load into FSP due to no channels. Anyway BB is stuck in validate Pids mode for now.
I pm'd Paul.
Thank you. The reset for FSP to installation default did nothing but that may just clear memory.
Well here's where I'm at today. Deleted all vpl files and revalidated computer and FSP, created two vin specific vpl files, although missing some numbers, example 1G1YY32G_Y5.vpl and 1G1YY32G_Y5_10.vpl plus one External.vpl. Every thing stays validated as long as I'm plugged into PCM and I can load PIDs onto FSP and BB scan. When unplugged from PCM but connected to FSP all PIDs with a channel association become invalid and unload-able to FSP. I'm selecting the LSB1 Gen III 99-08 controller and my car specific vin. This is the only car ever plugged too.
More minor difficulties between last nites shakedown and todays BB log run. In log 0069 Absolute Throttle position stays at 0% and Ignition Timing for Cyl #1 stays at -64 deg but both report normally in log 0068. Not concerned with idle air flow, did not have proper pids selected.

Your vehicle is 2000 Corvette...?
Yes, with COS 2030003.
Well this is getting frustrating. First of all ignore post 21, somehow the log reported properly. When I validate the FSP a 2kb file named 'external' is written. When I plug into PCM, automatic validation, a 5kb file is written named '1G1YY32G_Y5' is written. When i use the menu bar validate a 7kb file named '1G1YY32G_Y5_10' is written. You'd think they would all be the same size.
Is scan looking for the proper protocol in SAE J1850 VPW? I end up with anywhere from 348 to 370 validated pids usable while plugged into PCM.
There's a lot of talent on this forum, somebody has had to have destroyed their laptop and start all over.

After you did that, does the V1 programming popup show non-zero pid channels...?
Yes but only till FSP is disconnected once from scan, like saving a Pid selection or just disconnecting. When FSP is reconnected only Pids with 0 channels are valid and these approx 70 Pids are unload-able to FSP.
Misunderstood, once Pids are loaded in FSP they remain and are usable. I was mistakingly referring to scan validation.
Well I believe it's a licensing issue. After validating Pids help/about still reports generic vin, PCM as N/A and PCM OS as N/A. Still no pids with a channel association selectable unless connected to PCM. The only difference I see is my upgrade is dated 15 Feb 2006 and my flashscan reports 18 Jan 2005. Anyone?

I can confirm that there is a bug in the V7.5 software that will not load the validated PID list from a *.vpl file unless a vehicle is connected.
It will be fixed in the next update.
Meanwhile, you can fool the software into loading your validated PIDs by deleting the external.vpl file and renaming your vehicle's actual *.vpl file to "external.vpl". That will force the software to load your vehicle's validated PIDs when no vehicle connection exists. That is because when no connection exists it is only loading the external.vpl file (which usually contains the valid external PIDs, i.e. the analog voltage PIDs for FlashScan).

Paul, thanks, that is an interesting workaround
Well why didn't I think of that. Thank you very much Paul. Keeps a 70 year old out of the Florida heat when tinkering with the car.
Ok I have a 03 Silverado 2500HD with the 6.0L and 4L80 Trans. So I have the LS1B. I am trying to follow the Calc.Vet process and come to the PIDs part. Of course the Tutorial was written with the 7.5 PID list. So I build my Calc.Vet.pid as the tutorial describes in 7.5 and save it. Now I can not save it to my V2. The "Program selected PIDs into the Flashscan" function is not enabled. How do I get the PIDs to the V2? I know use 8.0 but the tutorial is written with the PID labels and such in 7.5. They are not the same in 8.0
The option "Program selected PIDs into the Flashscan" is for FlashScan V1 black box logging.
For FlashScan V2 black box logging you need to use the V8 option: [F5: BBX]->[F2: Scan].
The documentation for BBL starts on page 37 of the V8 Reference Manual: Help->Documents->EFILive V8 Reference Manual.pdf

To copy your PID selection from V7 to V8...
You can highlight the PIDs in V7 and select the menu option "Edit->Copy for export to V8". Then in V8, right click in the green section of the V8 BBX Scan window and select Paste.
That process translates PID names that have had been changed between V7 and V8.

Paul
YOU ROCK, Thank you
You can't use V8 to do any tuning like Calc.VET because V8 maps are not available yet.
Regarding setting up V2 BBx pids, also see this: Setting-up-a-FSV2-from-scratch
Ya that is funny
Will V8 trim any PID which is feels does not work for your vehicle? The reason I ask is because I tried to copy 24 and only 17 were pasted.
This is what is suggested to use and I tried to copy
Attachment 18495
And this is what copies over
Attachment 18496
Looks like these are the PIDs which did not copy and I can't find them in V8
