I don't know if this is an E98 specific or overall efilive... How does one set the units to USA in BBX scanning? The PIDs show only in metric and all my settings everywhere show custom... Am i missing something?

Default BBX units are Metric.
For the pids you want in SAE/Imperial/US units, you have to create Custom Pid Properties...
you will most likely find the units you want under the Quick Select;
see attached pic for example (shows IAT, Quick Select is set to degrees F, the factor/offset are already preset for this).

After you edit the Custom Pid Properties for all the pids you want to see in SAE/Imperial/US units, click Save at the bottom, and then Program it to your V2.
I though that might be what was required... Is there not a master setting? For example... On my v2 it has a setting for displayed units being "metric" or "custom" and also in my software options as well, I have it all setup to custom... How come with all the relevant places to change those options, I still have to go to each PID and manually set it to display in US units? I guess the better question would be how to change the default to US units so I don't have to change each one manually... Is that what those settings are for I'm the first place? Or is bbx scanning something totally different? If so, what do those other display units settings do?Quote:

There is no master setting that I can see.
OBD-II is all defined in Metric, along with all the mechanical aspects of your vehicle
( yes here in the USA vehicles have been metric since the late 1980's, look at any factory service manual )

I am actually very early in my monitoring stages... I am just figuring stuff out at the moment... I was looking through the list of PIDs last night and noticed they show metric for pressures and temps... And I couldn't figure out am easy way to change them all to USA... I thought that's what these settings were for (see photo)Quote:

BBL has its own config file that is written to V2 regardless of what's going on in V8.

Some of us use mixed units (kPa for MAP, psi for trans line pressure, g/s, g/cyl, mph, F).

I thought i answered that question but apparently not in enough detail, so I will explain further... Currently I'm logging 0 PIDs... I'm figuring out how I would like it to capture my logs. I would like it displayed in US units, regardless of the ecms being programmed in metric units. In the heavy equipment industry, both units are alive and well, and by preference I would like USA measurements. A perfect example... On John Deere excavators, the units are US, on Hitachi excavators the units are metric. But regardless of the two brands, under the brand color scheme, they're the same machine. John Deere excavators are Hitachi, in yellow and grey paint. John Deere's ServiceAdvisor software can be configured to either, Hitachi's MPDr measures in metric but cannot be changed from that.Quote:

The PIDs I will eventually be monitoring are rail pressure desired and actual (PSI)... Boost desired and actual (PSI)... Timing (B/A-TDC)... APP (%)... Fuel Delivery (mm3)... And furthermore, per Ross, the egrt1&2 sensors aren't even available to USA based e98 for monitoring... The cal definitions didn't include that but he said he would get it put in... The only one even remotely possible because its in the manifold already, is the wrong type of sensor. It is a thermistor and NOT a thermocouple... Also, its poorly placed between cylinders 1&2 and not just before the turbo... The remaining 5 in after the turbo are worthless for tuning and can only be used to babysit regenerations, which wont happen...
As it sits currently, i have not made power changes... I am running de-limited on stock fuel and timing... All torque management in the xmsn is all intact... But the torque limits that i could find in the tcm and ecm have been maxed out... The oem fuel tables are written beyond the torque limit tables so i know there was some oomph to be had by removing them... As for right now, i dont have quantifiable gains to report, havent been on a dyno... But i know for a fact that it scoots compared to stock. I have my autometer egt gauge and probe to install before i go any further than it sits right now... So back to the topic... I have not decided how to set it all up as of yet, im only playing around with stuff so when i tell it to record my log, that i got recorded what i wanted... If i get a hiccup and then find that hiccup wasnt captured for whatever reason i have to go and reproduce the condition again to see if i can catch it. I have time to figure out how to get it setup how i like until this coming weekend when i get my egt put in..
This is how V8 is designed to work.
- All PIDs are pre-defined by EFILive in metric units
- Calculated PIDs defined by a user must (should) also be defined in metric - otherwise the unit conversion routines will not work correctly.
- All PID calculations that are performed in the software are done in metric.
- When a PID's value is displayed there will always be (should always be) an option for the user to choose to display the PID's value in the units of their choice.
Many people (myself included) prefer to view some or all of the PID values in units other than metric, usually US Customary units (sometimes incorrectly called Imperial units - I'm guilty of calling them that in the past). Anyway when V8 was designed we chose to allow PID data (and eventually calibration data when the V8 editor is done) to be displayed in any units that the user wants to use, not just a choice between Metric or US Customary units. For example different people may choose to view pressure in kPa, psi, inHG, inH20, bar or some other unit that measures pressure.
In V8 we created a units customization option to allow you to add your own units and also add the conversion parameters required by the software to convert from the default metric units to the units of your choice. That is what is shown in the first two tab pages ([Units] and [Conversions]) of the screen shot in post #6.
There are two places where PID data can be displayed:
- On the FlashScan/AutoCal screen during black box logging.
- In the V8 scan tool gauges, charts and maps during pass-thru logging and log file playback.
For option 1, you can choose to have FlashScan/AutoCal display the PID values using one of two display modes:Metric: is default metric units.During black box data logging you can change the display units of the entire set of PIDs between Metric and Custom by pressing the [Enter] key on FlashScan's keypad. For AutoCal you need to pre-set the display mode using the [F6: Devices]->[F3: Display] option.
Custom: is the user selected custom units - these are the units that you select in the [F5: BBX] window by right-clicking on a PID and selecting "Properties", as shown in post #2.
For Option 2, you decide which units you want each PID to be displayed in on each of the [F3: Data], [F4: Charts], [F5: Gauges] and [F6: Maps] tab pages by right clicking on the PID and selecting the PID and one of the available display units. Once you've set up a dashboard with all the PIDs using the units just the way you want, you should save that dashboard using the [Save] button's drop down list option "Save Dashboard As...". Then you can quickly/easily select that dashboard from the "Dashboard:" drop down list of most recently used dashboards whenever you want to see the PIDs in the units that you've defined for that dashboard.
For example, to change between Metric and Custom units for the EFILive supplied default E38 dashboard, use the [Open] button's drop down list option "Open Dashboard" to open the "EFI_E38_Sample_Metric" dashboard for metric, then open the "EFI_E38_Sample_Custom" dashboard for US Customary units. Once you've opened a dashboard, it will appear in the "Dashboard:" drop down list (the last 10 dashboards are stored there) where you can select one or the other to quickly/easily change all units at the same time.
The "Group" column in the [Units] tab page tells the software which units can be converted between themselves. It stops the software attempting to offer conversion from km/h to ft-lbs or other equally impossible conversions.
The "Group" column in the [Default Units] tab page is to allow different types of PIDs that would otherwise have the same units to be handled differently. For example you may want to display Mass Air Flow (MassTime.Gas) in g/s but fuel flow (MassTime.Liquid) in lbs/hr.
The [Default Units] Group option is currently only used when selecting multiple PIDs in the [F2: Scan]->[F3: Data] tab page. If you select multiple PIDs, then right click you can select one of the presets to change all the PIDs at the same time. That only changes the PIDs' units on the [F3: Data] tab page. It does not change the PIDs' units on other tab pages. It will also be used in future to select/change the displayed units for calibrations in the V8 tune editor. So you can quickly and easily change all calibrations' units to one of those presets.

Yes the way @Blacky broke it down made it crystal clear and I did exactly what he wrote out and it worked like a champ... I was just confused as to why when I set it everywhere to show in US measurements but it didnt work as I expected... All is well in the world now..Quote:
