Ah, the tutorial you are reading is aimed at the LS1.
As suggested above there is one for the E38, look in the Tune Tool help menu under tutorials for 'Virtual VE Tutorial'. Whilst the concept is the same, the way the VE table is changed is different to the LS1.
Also, please see this thread -

Thanks GMPX I will check it out.

The "Virtual VE Tutorial" is no longer revalent. It was written in 2007.
Yes principle is sorta the same but table references are wrong and the newer tune version has different options/descriptions.
Why can't these tutorials be updated?

The E38 is a different animal when in VE. There are a few of the dynamics variables that are not used when in VE and changes quite a bit the fueling. You need to keep this into account.

Thanks Highlander, I agree...but still that's even more reason to update/create a tutorial for the E38 VVE. Seems like there is enough discussion to warrant a tutorial. I know the LS1 was much easier ( as related to the LS3) to tune, but there are a lot of 2009-2014 being modified. Is it we don't have enough knowledge base to create the tutorials like they did for the LS1? I do appreciate whats out here but there are still to many references to the LS1 tables making it hard for 2009+ users to understand. Then there is the conflicting explanations I run into that make it more confusing but I know there will be those discussions because of the level of understanding.
I am still gonna keep digging and trying to learn this E38 ecm. Thanks to all for the help!
