    Default v2 repair

My v2 has been messed up for a while. It stoped powering up off the usb. I always have to have it plugged into the vehicle to update the firmware or just get licensing info. Now I have a new laptop and it can't identify the v2 even when hooked up my desktop it says usb device not recognized and one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. Can it be fixed? Who do I send it to.

    Default V2 dies on usb

    Hi.
I have exactly the same problem as boosted GMC described.
Mine is fine too - plugged in OBD2 and can communicate with the laptop as well.
With the USB-laptop connection only it trys to power up but is stuck then with all 5 LED´s on.
I could fix it myself - if this is a known problem, but would need some instruction what part is defective (voltage regulator or so), never disassembled my V2 before.
All tools for smd soldering are on my table and I use them often....
How can I proceed? (I´m located in Berlin / Germany)
    Kind regards!

    Marco

I sent mine in for repair. Ira fixed it in one day and only charged me for the bench charge and shipping. He also uploaded the latest firmware and bootblock loader. I couldn't be happier with the way this was handled.

Marco, contact Ira at Fish Tuning, he might be able to point you in the right direction as he does repair V2's, it might be better option than sending your V2 half way around the world. http://www.fishtuning.com/

If you attempt the repair yourself obviously warranty will be out the window, but if you have all the right SMD equipment then it should be pretty straight forward as none of the parts are too small.

    Cheers,
    Ross

    Hi,

    I fixed it!

    Ira wrote me:
Right near the USB connector is an 8 pin chip, usb6b1, it will
usually have a hole in it where it exploded. It's almost always that
part. Once it was also the FTDI USB chip and once I couldn't fix it,
but it had lots of other blown up stuff also.

an so I voided my warranty and this is the V2 PCB :

on the right hand side you can see the exploded USB protection chip
With the wire I pulled up every SMD pin to desolder the chip with an ordinary solder iron.

after the desoldering it looks like this:

and now the new usb chip is in again (ok - it could have been placed a little more exact but it works...)

Many thanks to Ira and kind regards from Germany

    Marco
