    Default HELP switching computers

I am not that great at this but when I switch to another laptop my interface will not work. When I plug it into the USB nothing happens. It does not bring up a hareware found window or light up the interface. Also when I open tune software it says problem with drivers. I tried to follow the instructions in the sticky but I think I got a diff. problem. I know the USB port works on the computer with a camera. HELP PLEASE

If it works on one laptop but not the other,
it is almost certainly the laptop that is the issue.
Are you using battery or a/c power?
    Is the USB port powered?
Some laptops won`t power the USB port when on battery power.

Well I think I got it. It seems that I now have to have the interface pluged into the truck to make things work right. It is a cheaper Dell laptop that I am working with now could it be that the USB is not powered and is this a problem?

Since it is working with the laptop while plugged into the vehicle,
    it seems logical.
Plugging in the V2 to the laptop alone should power it up.

Always make sure you have a reliable battery and are plugged into a/c power
    when updating bootblock/firmware.

When I plug it into the laptop nothing happens. The laptop does not even that anything is pluged in unless it is pluged into the truck. Very wierd

Can you still power the FlashScan from just the USB connection of the original latptop? It may be the USB power circuit in FlasScan coincidentally failed at the same time you stated using a different laptop.

Yes when I plug it in the old laptop everything is normal. Powers right up.. I am still lost cause the new laptop seems to work normal with everything that I put in the USB port..

There are two power modes that USB can support.
    1. 100mA
    2. 500mA

FlashScan requires a USB port that can supply 500mA.
It is possible/likely that the USB port on your laptop is not capable of supplying 500mA.

An example of a port that cannot support 500mA is a port on a BUS powered USB hub. Even though the Hub is connected to a 500mA capable host port, the Hub has up to 4 USB connectors on it, each capable of supplying only 100mA (from the original 500mA supplied) and the remaining 100mA is used to run the hub itself.

It is possible that the laptop is using a bus powered hub to provide multiple USB connectors on your laptop, in that case the port(s) will only supply 100mA.

There is only one USB port on the computer and it appears to come straight off the mother board. Thanks for the thoughts about BUS powered USB hub I was thinking of trying that but mabey not a good idea. Still lost and confused. Is anyone using a Dell Latitude C610???????
