If the drivers were installed incorrectly or incompletely then FlashScan will not be able to tell Windows to allow the port to draw 500mA and it will not power up correctly.

Try using the FTCLean utility to clean out any FlashScan drivers. FTClean only works on Win2000 and WinXP, it doe snot work on Vista. If you are usaing Vista let me know and I'll explain how to remove badly installed drivers from Vista.

FTClean is available in your EFILive install here: \Program Files\EFILive\Drivers\Utiltities\FTClean
Use the Product ID (PID) value E4A1 to clear ONLY FlashScan V2 drivers.

    Once uninstalled, try reconnecting FlashScan.

I was using a Dell C610 and it was ok.

Do like Paul said, FTClean and then reinstall the driver.

The C610 is fairly old... it maybe broken.

How can I manually remove the V2 USB driver in WinXP SP2? FTClean does not work for me, I keep getting "file access denied" messages when the utility starts to generate the .ini file. I am logged in as administrator. Is there a way I can manually remove the driver?

    While FlashScan is plugged in...
    1. Right click on my computer and select properties.
    2. Select the Hardware tab page.
    3. Click on the [Device Manager] button.
    4. Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers item.
    5. Right click on EFILive FlashScan V2 and select Uninstall.

I'm revisiting trying to resolve this issue again on one of my laptops. Thanks for the previous help, but when the flashscan is plugged in, Windows XP does not detect and identify my V2. When I plug in the flashscan, I get "unrecognized USB device" balloon. The V2 will flicker once and never lights up and the balloon pops up shortly after that. So when I goto the device manager, the EFILive FlashScan V2 is not listed under Universal Serial Bus Controllers in device manager. It's not recognized, therefore I can't remove the driver in as outlined above. As I said earlier, FTClean does not work on this laptop for some odd reason. Is there another way to locate and uninstall the V2 driver? I did try a fresh install of EFILive with no luck.

The V2 lights up and works perfectly on my other laptop so I believe the issue is not within my V2 but my tuning laptop driver.

    Try this:

    1. Disconnect all EFILive devices.
    2. Open system properties (Windows Key+Pause/Break)
    3. Select [Advanced] tab page.
    4. Click on [Environment Variables]
    5. Add a new System variable called: DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES
    6. Set its value to 1.
    7. Select the [Hardware] tab page.
    8. Click on [Device Manager].
    9. Select menu: View->Show Hidden Devices
    10. Expand USB devices
    11. Uninstall ALL items that have EFILive FlashScan or EFILive AutoCal in their name.
    12. Exit out and plug in FlashScan.

You should get the driver install wizard.
Use the drivers located at: \Program Files\EFILive\Drivers\EFILive\Win-2K-XP-Vista

Also (in Device Manager) check for "Unknown Devices" or "Other Devices". They may be failed attempts to install FlashScan's drivers. You may need to uninstall those as well.

Thanks for the help Paul. I did as outlined above with no luck. My Dell C400 Latitiude only has one USB port on it. I installed my PCMCIA card that is a 4 port USB hub and the V2 was identifed and the drivers loaded as soon as it was plugged into my hub. Looks like my USB port on the motherboard is toast

Thank you for all the help.

    Jay
