Default How do you identify which motor in a 04

I am thinking of buying a 2004 Duramax and want to know how to tell if it has a LB7 or LLY? Is there any thing better of one over the other? Thanks for the input.

Well, aside from looking at the vin number, the easiest way is to see if the turbo has a mechanical wastegate on the passenger side of the turbo. An LB7 has a mechanical wastegate, LLY has an electronic turbo with variable vanes inside. Also the cast intake tube going into the front of the turbo on an LB7 is round and on the LLY's it's more square I believe, at least it is on my LBZ. My dad has an LB7

Just look on the inside of the glovebox door and find either LB7 or LLY in the list of RPO codes.
