Have to say....I'm very happy now with my tune.
Yeah...of course I'll never be 100% happy...but that's the OCD speaking.
Jon at FIC (Fuel Injector Connection) hooked me up with a set of LS1 injectors resized to 36lb/hr @ 58Psi.
I'd been running the Bosch 42lb/hr (@ 39.15Psi) 'Greentop' injectors and had many issues...some of which I had no idea were injector/fuel related.
Some time ago, as I'd blown my trans and diff I decided to make alot of changes all at once to the Burb (yeah...can be a nightmare but it's my daily driver so I didn't want it off the road for too long).
I imported, rebuilt and installed a 4L80E trans with Transgo shift kit. Installed a Trutrac/Eaton LSD, Mercruiser Marine intake (with the 'greentops'), 0411 PCM and Hydroboost braking and ditched the Whipple 'craptronics' (as they're affectionately known).
I could never really get the idle right...although it wasn't too bad.
However I had two more serious issues that I just could not sort out (I had pro tuners sitting in the car logging as it happened and we still couldn't find them).
1) On the first drive for the day the Burb would seriously bog as I went into boost for the first time. Not nailing it...just easing into it.
2) After driving for a while, if I pulled up at an intersection and then drove off 'normally' the Burb would stumble and stutter until it got going a bit. I could 'drive through' the issue if I gave it a bit more right foot.
I figured the first one was a 'fueling at cold temps' issue, but it happened even if I'd sat in the driveway and let the vehicle warm up well into op temp. No matter what I logged....couldn't find the issue. felt like it was changing up gears too soon....but it wasn't.
2nd issue felt like the Burb couldn't make it's mind up what gear it wanted to be in...3rd...2nd..3rd....2nd etc...but logging trans PID's revealed there were no gear changes going on.
I'd resigned to the conclusion that I'd stuffed something during the trans rebuild or shift kit install and I'd worry about it in a while when I put the 383 in.
So...I installed the rebuilt, resized LS1 injectors, changed the IFR to suit and loaded the stock injector tables from a factory LS1 5.7L tune.
The difference all round is amazing.
The Burb idles better, accelerates smoother and better/harder and is just alot nicer to drive.
But the best thing.....those 2 issues which have been driving me nuts for about 2 years.....have completely gone!
If anyone's after injectors...give Jon a call...he's a great guy and great to deal with.
