Well, software being what it is (...infinitely [de]formable...), it is difficult for the developer to pin down a date and time since something unforseen (or otherwise) always "happens at the last minute..." regardless of how careful and meticulous the developers and testers have been.
It would be like Paul betting against himself; if he tried to predict a date/time, then Murphy's law will absolutely guarrantee that that's not when.
Don't get me wrong, software development is loads of fun (no sarcasm intended, seriously...
It gives you a different perspective on life, the universe, everything...
