Scientists Worry Machines May Outsmart Man
You maybe the first victim of the machines revolt.

I used to run Kasperski AV and I remember one update quarantined Windows Explorer.
That incident made me learn another way to navigate Windows.

I have AVG on all the Winders machines , never had a problem with it (knock on wood) , do you see the drain in system resources (ctrl>alt>delete) ? Usually AVG uses less resources than others , that is why I used it while gaming .
Of course I use Winders only for EFILive or games , so rarely do more than a few hours on Winders .

Most of the big name virus scanners are now memory hungry slugs.
I am using ESET NOD32, but, even that seems to get slower with every major update. It used to be very good.

I just uninstalled it because it was causing problems with Outlook. For some reason it caused the blue screen every time I tried to open Outlook, a disk defrag, a Malware scan and a check disk/ R. I tried everything and finally brought my laptop to the IT guy at work who fixed it. Apparently it was the AVG email scanner and the pst file. He reinstalled the old pst file and it fixed it. I'm definitely not reinstalling it.

My cpu usage went from near zero to a 100% pegged on both hypercores... AVG was going nuts...

    I disabled AVG...

And then [I think] I found the problem... the Dell boot POST has discovered a few failed DRAM locations.

Good glad you found it . Had one stick that would work for several minutes until Windows wrote to its bad sector and BSOD , ran Memtest http://www.memtest.org/ and found it .
Actually it would crash during game play , if I just used the desktop it would never crash , thought it was heat related , game load causing hardware to heat up .
I did use profiles in Winders , would setup a gaming profile with very little services running and switch to it before starting game .

I didn't think Mac's had a virus problem because artists and greenies can't program them
