    Default 2010 Camaro DOD Cam Phasing Table ?

    I did a search on this and didn't find anything on this subject and was wondering if anyone else had noticed it.

    I was looking at my logs today and noticed the cam phase angle went to 18 degrees at 1650 RPM when the DOD was enabled. I have replaced the "blob" (for lack of a better word) of high cam retard on the cam phasing tables with normal numbers ("0" in this cell) so it doesn't retard at cruising speed. However, it did today when the DOD enabled. Therefore, I "assume" there are some more tables that control this.

    With larger VVT cams coming out in the very near future, it would be good to be able to limit all cam timing for piston clearance so you might not have to buy a VVT limiter kit. I would suppose this applies to the trucks also.

    Ross, any chance these might get these added in the near future? I am thinking about adding a bigger DOD cam to the L99 sometime soon and it could effect the install time frame.

    Unless you have your camshaft variable timing mechanically limited, I would not trust it for close valve to piston clearances. Software alone cannot limit it, actuators and/or oil flow can change the timing regardless of what is in the tune. A check engine light and bent valves at the same time wouldn't be a pleasant surprise.

    Al,

    That's about the conclusion I'm coming to on the limiter to be safe.

    I have been trying to see the real world difference the DOD makes to me the way I drive, but with that much cam retard in DOD mode can't be good for low speed torque. It comes in at cruising speed right where I don't want it.

    I am leaning toward a non-DOD cam if I can't change the cam timing tables in that mode.

    Do you change the retard "blob" in the standard phasing tables in your tunes?

    I have one of "said" VVT cams 22x/23x 115 lsa with a TVS 1900 and so far it sucks...we can't get over 8 deg before losing power on the dyno...cam manufacturer says should be like 20deg cam timing...is the software limited at this point? since their are no negative cell values allowed, what is considered 0, what is adv, what is retarded? Do we consider 0 max retard and then all positive #'s advanced? Or is 0 max advance and positive #'s retard? It appears to us on dyno 0 is max advance and positive #'s are retard. 8 was the max retard on stock 2010 camaro cam from factory and this is also the max timing we were able to run on aftermarket cam before power fell off. No one can give any guideance on this so far...especially when combined with blower.

    Yes, "0" is max advance and it is retarded from there. I read this about the L92 and I think also the 6.0L truck that 0 is 3.5 degrees advanced for that cam.
    The
    Vortec 6000’s new engine control module directs the
    phaser to advance or retard cam timing, depending on
    driving demands. The dual-equal phaser can turn the
    camshaft over a range of 26 degrees relative to the cam
    sprocket (or 7 degrees advance, 45 degrees retard relative
    to the crank).
    I would "assume" that means the cam is ground with 3.5 advanced and installed straight up, but that may not be the case. Did you degree your cam when you installed it and if so was it straight up? Was it ground with any advance in it?

    The cam in the Denali has 12.3 at 5600 RPM in it's phasing table as max and it and my Camaro will advance into the 20's when commanded to.

    The blower sure complicates this problem. My first thought is it wouldn't want as much cam timing range when under pressure. Did it make good power otherwise?

    Ross or Paul,

    I asked at the beginning of this thread but did not get any answer, so I'll ask one more time.

    Is there any possibility that we could get the "Cam Position In AFM Mode" table added to the 2010 Camaro L99 tune. I just noticed that it is already in the 2008 L76 truck file. I sure would like to be able to tune this parameter as it has a lot of retard at cruising speed. Thanks for your consideration.

    No, I'm working on Diesel right now, T43 updates will be after SEMA at least.
