Default How much power needed for bench top programing?

I'm not sure if this is the right spot for this, but I'm building a bench top programing harness and was wondering how much power is needed for reading and flashing the PCM. I found a wall plug transformer around the house that has a 12v 200mA output. Is that enough?

12V, same as your car battery.

I know that silly just want to know if the wall plug transformer I have is enough mA to power the PCM so I can read and flash it in the house with out using a big car battery,

    IIRC
someone here was using one with like 4.5amps.

    I'm using a Radioshack Universal AC/DC Adapter.... output DC voltage= 12v-24v amps= 4.5a
    No problems whatsoever...

Your wall plug may be (probably is) ac power, you'll have to get or build a rectifier anyways.

I am using a 400W power supply for a computer, just adapted the harness and connected it to a SPEARCO LS1 bench harness.

Works great, been using it since 2006.

Most of the wall warts have a very noisy DC output and I would not recommend one, better off to spend a few extra $ on a decent regulated 12V power supply, 1Amp output rating is plenty.
The only exception to this is the LBZ/LMM ECM, it draws a lot of power on initial turn on then drops off very fast, it usually trips the over current protection on my 6A supply! However, most supplies will cope with inital turn on currents fine.

    Cheers,
    Ross

I use a 12v 7.2Ah sealed battery with my bench harness; Works fine for everything I've tried (LBZ, LMM, LS1, LB7, 5 speed Allison, 6 speed Allison, T42 and one or two others). I also have a battery maintaner that I picked up at Batteries Plus that I use to charge and maintan the battery.

I've used a motorcycle battery, 30A Astron power supply, and a 430W computer power supply. My desktop also has a cigarette lighter port on the front of it. I'm guessing that a wall wart would probably work since I would guess the PCM draws less than 1A. The easiest way to find out would be to hook it up and see how much it draws. I can probably do this when I get home from another round Army fitness training (Hopefully without the black eye this time).
