Default Would a descreened maf cause problems in tuning wot afr?

My cousin finally got a wideband on his truck, it doesnt have any major mods other than shorty headers, exhaust, cai. I told him long ago not to descreen the maf but he did it anyways. Well with the current tune it had after the wideband was installed (plx btw) it was reading 13.2. Well like ive done in the past I tweak the maf calibration table if it was close without altering it too much, but this is having no affect at all and im kinda stumped and I think it could possibly be his maf since he descreened it? I think I have a log I can post up tommarow after I get it from my laptop, but I was mainly asking if a altered maf would cause problems like this?

    Thanks

According to all the 'experts' de-screening' a MAF results in altering the flow of air through the sensor (velocity and turbulence).

Chances are you just end up going lean, and you get huge variances in MAF frequencies vs airflow. I went back to a stock MAF (with screen) within the first month of tuning.

I agree, descreened stock maf = shitty running car, did this on a lt1 camaro, ended up getting a new maf from the junk yard.

Forgot if you still want a maf with no screen you could try a granatelli, I have had good results with them on the turbo s10's we used to do back in the day, but lately I have steered away from them and gone with zo6 mafs with screens, for cost factors mostly.

I did a Granatelli 'back in the day'.

Seems like it just allows you to manipulate a higher spark advance by altering the true air flow reading/load. With tuning software, I agree just getting a stock MAF is more economical, more accurate. and less hassle.
