    Question Knock Sensor Tuning

    Hey guys!

Question about tuning the Knock Sensors

As you probably know, the Gen III blocks cannot accommodate the Gen IV knock sensors in the side of the block. SOOOOO can a Gen IV ECM run Gen IV knock sensors in the Gen III valley cover?? Thanks in advance.

Im pretty sure they wont as they are a deferent type of sensor, plus I doubt that you will fit the sensors with plugs in the GEN III valley as the holes aren’t that big. You would be able to bolt GEN4 sensors on the side of the block, we have put our dyno knock sensors there in the past you just need to make a reducing bolt as the hole in the sensor is smaller than the hole in the block.
Why are you changing the computer?

Thanks. That makes it all better. Upgrading the PCM/ECM system.

They may bolt straight on as they go into spare engine mount holes from the factory, the ones on our dyno are Bosch and have a very small holes in them.
What vehicle are you upgrading on? There would more likely be bigger headaches than improvements!

I've pretty much determined that I have resolved the issues involved in swapping a 6L80E trans into another vehicle without an E38. The intent was to do so on my Trailblazer SS, but at this point I don't really want to tear down the daily driver and workhorse. So I figured...the Goats just sitting there...why not. So I hit the drawing board and determined what was necessary to do it in that and the basics started with yanking the PCM system and upgrading it to an E67.

However the biggest stumbling block for me was the observation that the knock sensors had changed and Gen III's had not provisions for them to be side mounted. I was under the assumption that the location had to be in the exact area for the sensor to be effective.

So going to use the Goat as the test mule not the SS huh? Makes sense with the weather now!

So, you are swapping PCMs in order to use a 4L80E?

Sacarab: Exactly. The GOAT can't tow the truck and carry parts back and forth! lol

    Mr. Prick: I'm putting in a 6-L80E, not a 4

Awesome, I had a revelation tonight driving my 02 TB with the P10 PCM back to Seattle. You're looking to swap the LS1 1MB PCM for a E67 ECM/T42 TCM setup. Why cant I swap the P10 for an LS1 (either 512kb or 1MB PCM)? This would allow V8 swaps with relative ease, now to find out if the LS1 PCMs can run all the comms, cluster, etc. Couldnt use it to run the I6 because the LS1 doesnt have the ability to run the VVT but for a V8 swap this would be very attractive.
