    Default Cal or OS

Hi all, I am trying to figure out if the calibration or the operating system
controls what kind of transmission you have. Like a 4L60 vs 4L80
I know that the 4L80 has one more sensor and one less solenoid.
The part I don't understand is that people told me that I could use
the copy function in EFI Live to change the trans ??

    Thanx
    -Justin

If you have two files with the same OS (e.g. 12212156) but different transmission segments (one has 4L60E, other has 4L80E), then you can open both files in one instance of the tunetool (one is "calibration", other is "alternate"), this allows you to copy any segment from the "alternate" to the "calibration" (go Edit->Copy Entire Segment).

Joe is it possible to copy a segment from 2 different OS' if the PCM is the same?

If the OS's are different then the tunetool won't allow you to open the other file as the alternate...

it's not a simple copy/paste, so opening two instances of the tunetool won't do it.

If you want to change transmission segment, you really need two files with the same OS...

with the LS1 PCM this is easy, there's some 12212156/4L60E and 12212156/4L80E files lying around...

with the T42 TCM, this is not so easy... and also GM stopped using the 4L80E after 2006 in favor of the 4L65E/70E or the 6L80/90.

    If you need a T42 4L80E calibration/segment, see here: showthread.php?p=110837#post110837

So the calibration has the power to reassign pins on the PCM ??

You will have to look up a wire diagram for PCM to 4L80E for the model years of interest and maybe possibly move some pins around.

    Which PCM are you using?
    I got a couple of re-wire diagrams for 4L60E to 4L80E swap.

Joe is correct, the cal cannot re-assign pins. In the example I mentioned in the other recent thread that was brought up here, the customer's vehicle had a conversion harness that he bought from a vendor that swaps the pins on the tranny and body harness.

You guys are over thinking my question. Maybe I can break it down for you.

What tells your PCM if you have 1 coil or 8 ?
What tells your PCM if you have a 4x reluctor or 24x reluctor ??
What tells your PCM if you have a automatic trans or a manual trans ???
What tells your PCM what the firing order is ????

    OS or CAL
