    Default VIN Licensing Question/Suggestion -

    Hi all - another question...

Is there a way to work on an existing EFILive tuned PCM without having to charge the customer another $100 to license the VIN to my cable? This customer has already paid their EFILive VIN license fee to another tuner and in this case removed their pos STS turbo kit, and I could not access the tune in their vehicle because it was not licensed to MY Flashscan V2 box; the customer elected to drive back to the original tuner to finish the job rather than pay me another $100 for a second, unnecessary EFILive VIN license.

Suggestions - can the licensing model of EFILive be changed so that the $100 VIN license fee is only collected once per VIN? If the V2 discovers that a EFILive tune is already present on the PCM it goes ahead and recognizes that PCM as writeable? Another idea, add to EFILive Tune application internet connectivity and have the software validate the PCM begin flashed, so that if it has been modified by EFILive already and the company has collected its VIN license fee the customer is not hit up for this fee again just because they elect to switch tuners.

I've had this happen 3-times in the last year... guys ask me to help them with their truck issues and I cannot because the customer would have to pay another EFILive VIN license fee.

    Mr. P.

It's likely not the answer you want, but streams solve this problem. I know it's a bucket of money, but besides solving that problem it means you can do stupid little things like fix speedos on trucks with big tires for $50 and still make money.

Authorization through the 'net would be a cool thing, though it would require a tuner to willingly upload the code (or the program forcing the upload). I guess doing the latter will be hard to enforce, as some places may not have their tuning box connected to the internet. With a manual upload, customers would be at the mercy of their tuner, and I reckon especially the bad ones will elect not to upload the customer's PCM id in order to protect their source of income ... :( So, adding some kind of key into the PCM (if possible) would be the only feasible way of detecting an EFI tune (apart from finding an EFI COS)
But then, this might/will cut into EFIlive's income, too ... :(
