Question Setting the record straight on Gen IV ADM/DoD and VVT

Ok...everyone loves using Wikipedia's highly informative LS-based but it and LS1Tech are not helping.

Am I correct in understanding that until the advent of the '09 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid LFA and '10 Escalade L94 no previous LS motor has had AFM/DoD AND VVT?

Also, for those with a bit more mechanical knowledge, am I to also understand that adding VVT to any Gen IV simply requires the hardware of the timing cover, actuator, VVT cam, and notched pistons?

I have a 2008 Impala SS and it has DOD and I think it goes back to 2006 on the LS4 engine. I'm not too sure on the VVT

    And ECM with suitable tune.........

From memory, the phasing is done via oil pressure fed from the cam bolt, hence why they went to a single bolt. The font half of the stock cam is hollow and there is an oil feed hole in number 2 bearing journal. The blot would then have a feed hole to provide oil pressure to the phaser.

In the Aus Gen IV engines I've seen, the bolt in the cam is a solid unit, so this would also need changing. I'll see if I have any pics available.,

In the full size trucks... 07,08,09 5.3's had DOD only. 07,08 6.0 (L76) had DOD and VVT.
A few early 07 6.2's (L92) had DOD and VVT, but they were pretty rare as far as I have seen. 08 6.2's only had VVT. L76 6.0's in the cars (G8's) had DOD only, no VVT. 6.0 GTO's had neither DOD or VVT.

I'm not in sales and I don't order the trucks so I could be off on a couple of these, but afaik that's how they came.

Here you go. Some pics of the front of the "VVT Capable" cam.....

First up, bearing journal #2. You can see how the oil is fed to the center of the cam.

Next, the front of the cam. Note the plug half way down the cam, to stop the oil running out the back. Also the 2 oil feed galleries and wider bolt hole to allow oil to flow in to the VVT adjuster.
