Is the pin out the same on 97 - 96? Wondering if a 98 PCM would plug in and could use EFI Live?

No, The pinouts are different. 96 is by itself. 97 is by itself. 98-2000 are the same.

    But I have interchanged the 96 and 97 PCM's with no problems. (97 PCM in a 96 C3500 Dually)

But a 0411 swap is the best bet, far more gains that way.

The A/C wiring is very slightly different. But, The 96 and 97 PCM will interchange as far as I know (As you stated). Although I have never tried to interchange the 96/97.

I flashed the 96 .bin into the 97 PCM with no issues. Internally, I can't remember finding an iota bit of difference in the 2 PCM's. Same with 98-00. If you have them apart you would be very very hard pressed to point out differences. When I was on OnStar we changed the GM PN when we would do a form/fit/function change to our side. GM wants 100% tracking on changes. So if a supplier made a change, say second source suppliers in the PCM, it would get a different PN. Say the 0411 vs 4895 or 4986 PCM's, inside virtually identical. But might very well be as simple as just supplier differences. I was the one who took out the OnStar PN's for many years and managed the GM issued #'s.
