    Default noob newbie

    g'day all,

i am a bit fed up parting with my hard earn cash to commercial
tuners that just can't get it right and charge the proverbial arm
every time. i am about to take the plunge and purchase a flashscan
v2, but would really appreciate a few pointers before committing.
I have searched many posts but somehow things remain unclear.
I would like to run the software from my apple macbook laptop via
parallel and tune only my car, a hsv gto ls1 4l60e (ie similar to pontiac
gto 04). I may also choose to tune my better half's car (ls2 4l65e).
What do i need in addition to the standard package and where should
    i purchase? cheers.

    Hi Alex,

The software will run on Parallels/Fusion, but I recommend booting WinXP using Boot Camp and running on there.

Looks like you can get away with FlashScan V1, although FlashScan V2 has some good features (LCD, serial wideband, SD card slot).

    You will need a wideband.

You will need to do a lot of reading, logging, and question asking.

    Cheers

Welcome Alex, what car exactly does your wife have? You are fine with either a FlashScan V1 or V2, but if your wife has a newer car (CAN based), you will need a V2 to tune it. Dont want to see you buy a V1 for your car, then only to realize 6 months from now you cant tune your wife's because it isnt supported. Check the supported vehicles page out! thanks joe and erik for making me feel welcome. i have done much reading over the past few days to build up my confidence and have chosen to purchase the 'v1 scan and tune' to start with. it appears that the initial purchase would include licensing to scan and tune a single pcm and a single tcm (ie the ls1/4l60e in my car). if i get to play around 'successfully' with this unit i may then choose to buy extra licenses or upgrade to v2 if required. i was also hoping to delay the purchase of an afm until i get a grip on the v1. am i on the right track? and can i buy through EFIlive Direct or should I go through my local dealer? thanks again for your help.

Actually you just have a single PCM in your car so it will only be 1 license.

Where are you located, there are dealers all over the US plus some in the UK and South Africa and of course Aus/NZ.

The licensing structure is different for a V2, they are licensed to a ECM+TCM or a PCM instead of per controller. I would look hard at the comparison between a V1 and V2, the little extra $$ up front will probably be worth it in the end. All the standalone options the V2 has make it worth it to me, I have both actually haha!
