Default Reading a 5.9L ECM quick guide

We recently requested on various forums that people start to read out the tunes from their 2006+ 5.9L trucks to ensure we can support as many ECM operating systems as possible when the full tuning package is released.
So we thought it would be best to put up a quick start guide on how to do this so you can Email the files to us.
Note, 2005 seems to be a crossover point for the CAN vehicles, some late 2005 trucks are using the CAN ECM, so by all means try it on any later 2005's too.

First thing, we really just want stock tunes sent in, if you are currently running another tuner in your truck and you have the option to restore it to stock, this would be our preference before you read the file out.
Any files sent in will remain with EFILive, we only need them for mapping out the various ECM operating systems, nothing else.

You MUST install the V7 & V8 software and firmware posted in THIS thread or the reads will not produce usable files.
It is very important you update the V2 firmware once you have installed these updates.
We've had a few files sent in from people using older software / firmware and they are no good, we've changed too many things with the Cummins during the beta phase and all these changes are in the download in the link above.

So now you are sitting in the truck with flashscan plugged in to the OBD-II plug and the USB side in to your PC, here we go.

Step 1: Turn the trucks ignition on, but don't start the engine.

Step 2: Start the 'EFILive Scan And Tune' software on the PC.
Then click on the Tune button to open up the second window below (or press F3)

Step 3: Press the 'Auto Detect' button, after a few seconds the Cummins ECM should be shown.

If the ECM is not detected, then right click on where the image would appear and select 'CM849' from the list.

Step 4: Press the 'Go' button to begin the read process.

The read will take 5 - 6 minutes and you will probably hear things switching on and off on the truck during this process.

Step 5: When the read has completed you will be presented with a screen like the one below.
Just save the file, Email it to support@efilive.com and you are done.

    Thanks.

Can we BBR these as well? Or is that not officially supported yet? I just checked and the CMB controller isnt listed under the BBX options (I think it was a while back, but I cant remember).

Im asking because I might be able to ask my buddy to read a few of his friends trucks out but Id just want to loan him my V2, maybe even an AutoCal if that works.

Erik, in theory BBR is possible, however I personally have not tested it here.

Great to hear! Plus now you know that works too so you dont have to go mess with it later down the road.
