    Default 98 cos

    Hey Ive always been an efilive fan but Ive searched and searched and seems like theres no options for the 98 guys except to swap pcms to a 02 pcm. I was doing some searching and apparently HPTuners has a 98 2bar COS so my question is if they do then why the heck doesnt EFILive??

    Hey Ive been a fan of EFILive for some time since back in my V1 days. But Im doing some searching as I wanna go F1A on a 402 and been searching for tuning options and EFILive doesnt have a 2 bar COS for the 98s, everyone says update to 02 pcm. Well after some reading apparently HPTuners has a 2bar COS for 98s, so I guess my question is if HPTuners can have it then why cant EFI?? If its just not enough time to invest in it then thats crappy towards the 98 guys IMO.

    You do know the 97-98 LS1 PCMs are FREE to tune right? HPTuners charges you credits to tune them, EFILive does not. I think it comes down to their limited use, the LS1A was only used on the 97-98 Vette and the 98 Camaro/Firebird, not many vehicles when compared to the 99-08 LS1B that covers Vettes, Camaros, Firebirds, trucks, SUVs, etc.

    It might be crappy, but I guarantee you EFILive isnt going to go back and make a COS for 97-98 LS1A PCMs. Sorry, but even the 99-05 COSs havent been written or updated in 4+ years.

    Also I believe the 97-98 PCM has more limitations than the 99-02 PCM, this is a contributing factor and reason why most people upgrade to a 99-02 PCM. Plus the latest 02 OS is more refined than the other OSs, lots of people report better driveability and overall vehicle feel compared to a 99-01 OS.

    And EFILive doesnt charge for COSs, HPT its another set of credits.

    Hi Brian,

    The 2002 OS is better than the 1998 OS (it allows an engine calibration that has a single VE table, among other things).

    The 2002 COS offered by EFILive supports 2/2.5/3 bar, nitrous, alpha-N, and is included for free.

    Swapping to the 411 is fairly simple and well documented.

    Time is certainly a factor, but there is also the fact that the 1998 models are now 13 years old. As a business is that really a good place to focus time/effort/resources on when there are several other pressing opportunities.

    Right now there are HP Tuners customers saying "EFILive have support for E39 and E78, so why can't HP Tuners?". We're different companies (obviously) and have different criteria and priorities for our development and support efforts.

    If you have a 1998 project vehicle that is going to be a bit wild then our view is that the change to the 1999+ PCM (and the 2002 OS/COS) is your best option. Upgrading to the 2002 OS is very common as the OS has a lot of restructured tables which are beneficial over the 1999+ and certainly the 1997/19997 operating systems. Or if there is a COS available for a 1998 that meets your needs elsewhere by all means take that path.
