Default Throttle Follower, why is it used?

So before you all start posting links on throttle follower and cracker, I will say that I spent my weekend reading up on them I and know pretty well what they do an when they get activated/deactivated. I remain with one question un answered though, why is the TF required at higher Rpms? My tune right now is commanding 6.50 g/s @ 4400 Rpm, would I gain anything by increasing this value for the higher rpms?

smoothness... since its a decayed airflow it removes a lot of the jerkiness associated with moving the throttle.
