    4L80E/85E is a different design than the 4L60E/65E/70E...

    compare these two threads:
    4L80E-Reference-Material
    4L60E-Reference-Material

    [ The 4L80E/85E is the electronic update (and adding overdrive) of the old 3 speed THM-400 ]
    [ The 4L60E/65E/70E is the electronic update of the old 4 speed 700-R4 (which is different than the old 3 speed THM-350) ]

    The 3-2 solenoid found in the 4L60E is not a shift solenoid... it controls the fluid exit rate from the 3rd accumulator (which is the 2/4 servo unstroking/releasing the band on the 2-3 upshift)... i.e. the 3-2 solenoid controls the rate of band apply on the 3-2 downshift (it's proper name is 3-2 control solenoid);

    GM eliminated the 3-2 solenoid on later 4L65E and all 4L70E (I'm reasonably sure, but can someone verify this).

    You can safely ignore it when wiring to the 4L80E connector.

    I was wrong about the Silverado. I bought and downloaded a digital copy of the entire 2007-2009 Silverado (2500/3500 HD included) service manual and it only has transmission sections for (4L60e/4L65e/4L70e), (Allison), and (6L50/6L80/6L90). No mention anywhere of 4L80e.

    Taz,

    Thank you! That's exactly what I needed.

    If anyone wants any info from the 2007 thru 2009 Silverado service manual, feel free to ask. I guess if I ever decide to try a 6L90 or an Allison, I'll have the info.

    Oh, and the MDI files are Microsoft Office Document Imaging. Not normally installed with MS Office, I had to install the feature from my existing Office suite. There's a free viewer available from MS as well.

    That looks to be it! Strange how the service manual I D/L'd doesn't have this. Thank you doubledip!

    Looks like the 3-2 shift solenoid was eliminated in the 2009 model year - at least for trucks - other models may vary.
