Default UPS Duty Charge and Disbursement Fee????

I just received a bill from UPS for my FlashScan delivery. It appears that I was charged a 5.30% tariff rate on the extra plastic terminals I ordered. In addition to this charge (5 cents), UPS is charging me a $5.00 Disbursment Fee.

Has anyone that ordered extra terminals with FlashScan received a bill from UPS?

US customs will charge a 0.21% (min $25.00) "Formal Entry" fee (also called a Merchandise Processing Fee) if the cost of the goods is over USD $2,000.
UPS will charge a disbursement fee of 2% (min $5.00) of monies paid upfront to customs.

As far as I know, you should not have been charged anything by US customs or UPS, if your order was under USD $2,000
Check the invoice attached to the shipment to make sure it does not incorrectly state a price over USD $2,000

I will ask UPs about it tomorrow and let you know what they say.

My EFILive invoice states the total value of FashScan as 199.00 USD and the plastic terminals (2 total) as 1.00 USD each.

The UPS International Services Invoice lists the following:
    ................Entered Value...Tariff Rate...Amount
    FlashScan.......199.00............FREE..........0. 00
    Plastic Term.......2.00............5.30%........0.05

Plus the Dispursement Fee of 5.00.

It sounds as though UPS may have made a mistake. Thanks for the offer to contact them on my behalf, but I know you are very busy with many more important matters. I will give them a call and try to resolve this issue.

    Default Australian Duties???

    Hi,

I have just had UPS ring me saying that Australian Customs have grabed my Upgrade from EFILive V6 Pro to FlashScan on the way in and they want $92 is this normal? Is this what everyone is paying? Does it work out something like 15% duties and 10% GST?
    Thanks

    Matthew

    I've done some investigation...
Australian Customs have a very low threshold for imports.

Anything over AUD $250 (compare with the US at $2,000) they will charge you a $49.25 "Compile fee" whatever that is.
There is also the GST component which comes to about AUD $30
To me, that should only be $79.25
Where they get $92 from I do not know.

At around $300, a single FlashScan upgrade is just an unfortunate price. Even a $20,000 product would only incur $49.25. Because FlashScan is *just* over $250 it gets hit with the same $49.25 fee.

We may have to look at bulk shipping FlashScan units to Australia and distributing them from within Australia. That way the entire shipment only gets hit once with one $49.25 fee.

    Regards

Except my PLX WBO2, I got lucky, it just turned up without me having to give the government MORE money.
