    Default will I need to buy licenses

    I burnt my old ecm and got a used on and had it flashed at the dealership this morning and i tried to reinstall my tunes and its asking to licenses the ecm. what do i need to do?

    Yes,

    It license the actual ecm.

    so i need to get another licence ? the truck was tuned before

    Yes, the moniker "VIN license" is a little deceiving in my opinion. Should be "Licensed to controller serial number" as each controller requires its own license. For example, just because 2 ECMs have the same VIN and OS, the serial number will be different and you will need 2 licenses to tune both controllers.

    What happened to the old ECM?

    i was tunning it and my lap top died right after it erased the ecm and i couldnt get connected back to it

    Do you still have the ECM? Have you tried full flashing it? Were you performing a full flash when it died?

    yea i still have it and i was in the middle of a full flash

    If it was in the middle of a flash and not at the very beginning (first 10sec of a full flash) then the ECM should be recoverable. Did you send trace files to support to see if the ECM is really dead?
