    Default swapping ECM's, compatability

Please share your experiences from trying to use an 01 ECM in the later model 02-04 trucks. Curious what the experience has been, OS issues, etc.

You can full flash a 2001-ECM/OS to any 2002-2004, but you can never go back to the 2001 OS, unless you have a RoadRunner.......or two.

    Thanks T

I think I wasn't clear. There are 2 part numbers in ECM's. My main question is there any difference? Will the 01 ECM function without issue in later models?

What issues do you get from flashing back to an 01? I know I have flashed my 01 up to an 02 than back to an 01 and now back to the 02 a few times now, but this is in a swap where I don't need full functionality of all ECM functions.

I know there was a change in 03 where the ECM reads oil pressure instead of the sender going to the cluster. I believe you can flash an 03 OS into an 02 and get the oil pressure guage to work, but the 01 doesn't have the added circuit in it for the 03-04 oil pressure sensor is what I was told before. 01 is sort of an oddball as it works in 01, but the later ECM's will work for an 01.

The 2001 ECM has a different part number, it will accept any 2002,2003,2004 OS and function fine, you can also full flash it to any of the 2002-2004 OS's and change the OS to any 2002-2004 OS/Federal/NE/Cali without issue.

If you attempt to flash it back to a 2001 OS once it has been flashed with a 2002-2004 OS it will permanently lock the oil life at 0%.

The function of the oil pressure is done through the ecm calibration, not the actual computer.

I do not even bother with 2001's OS's, I use the 2002/15186006 OS for all 2001/2002 trucks I tune.

Since I don't have the the DIC anymore(olnly use it to trigger an LED for tow/haul mode), I wouldn't have noticed the change oil message. When I first started tuning I tried several tunes and was flashing from 01 up to 03's and in between without an issue, but like I said I don't have the DIC anymore. The 6006 seems to work very well for me as well as I got tired of random clouds of smoke that would fog out a small city when I was playing with the 01 OS. I had read before though that the 01 ECM didn't have the circuit required to read the oil pressure sensor that 03+ trucks use sort of like how some gasser ECM's don't have IAC circuits in them, but I didn't know this for certain or not.
