    Default T56 to 4L80E setup/tuning

    I am converting my 2000 Camaro from a T56 to a 4L80E and looking for help on how to get it hooked up and tuned the best way. I am using the Custom OS3 based on the 01/02 Camaro OS (12212156). I was planning on getting the Speartech T56 to 4L80E harness and then do a 4L80E segment swap but was reading if you did that then the converter would unlock anytime you left off the throttle. Supposedly you can control the 4L80E with the 4L60E calibration and not have to worry about the converter unlocking anytime you left off the throttle. To use the 4L60E calibration do I need to get an auto engine harness or do I still need to get the Speartech T56 to 4L80E harness? Any help would be great appreciated?

    Thanks,
    John

    I read those and I didn't see anywhere in those threads if you still need the T56 to 4L80E harness from Speartech to get the 4L80E trans to work with the 4L60E calibration or if you just need to get a auto LS1 camaro engine harness.

    Hello John,

    You could go either route ... I believe the Speartech harness comes with Micro-Pack 100W terminal ends ... which get inserted into the LS1-B PCM connectors ... effectively making your standard transmission harness an automatic transmission harness.

    Following the harness rework you would then need an automatic tune in the PCM to complete the conversion.

    I cant help on the wiring, but sounds like both Speartech or a factory auto harness would work. A 4L06E->4L80E using the 4L60E tune isnt that hard, need to move 2 or 3 wires around that thats it. Use a factory Camaro SS Auto file to have the TCC remain locked under 0% throttle, its the truck OSs that unlock the TCC under 0% throttle so dont use one! Wish I could find a car OS that plays nice with my TBSS, this annoys the heck out of me on the freeway in traffic moving at 50-60mph.

    I am not totally clear on the wiring. I know I could get the Speartech T56 to 4L80E harness but looking on the Speartech website even if I had a auto engine harness I would still need a 4L60E to 4L80E adapter harness. I could get a auto engine harness pretty easily but that doesn't help much if I would still need to get the 4L60E to 4L80E adapter harness.

    When I did mine I got with LT1wiring.net (2000 LS1) and for like $55 they sent me a 2nd VSS harness plus the 4L80e wiring plug with pins to wire into the harness.

    That was before I tuned so Bluecat did the tuning.

    John, what Im trying to say is you dont need to add and extra wiring/adapters/etc to run an 80E with a 60E tune. Joe posted some links that show you exactly which 2/3 wires need to be moved (and I think 1 stays unplugged). Simple as removing 2 pins from the PCM harness and swapping them.

    Summary (how to run a 4L80E from a 4L60E segment):
    - discard 3-2 control signal;
    - invert 2-3 shift solenoid signal (using a relay);
    - drive TCC directly from TCC signal (discard TCC PWM signal), or use TCC signal to gate TCC PWM signal to TCC PWM solenoid (using a relay).

    See here: 4l80e-4th-gear-and-tcc-problem

    Note 1:
    - 4L60E has 3-2 control solenoid (which is not a shift solenoid);
    - 4L80E does not have this solenoid.

    Note 2:
    - 4L60E has TCC (on/off) and TCC PWM solenoids;
    - 4L80E has only TCC PWM solenoid.

    Note 3:
    - F-car 4L60E segments keep the TCC applied on closed throttle (as long as you're above the MPH/TPS release curve);
    - not sure about Y-car 4L60E segments;
    - truck 4L60E segments and all 4L80E segments release the TCC on closed throttle.

    Regardless, you will need the following inputs:
    - P/N switch;
    - brake switch (for TCC release).
