Default ECM swaps and breakpoint between 09 and 09.5 ?

I bought an "09" 6.7 to use in a Cummins swap.

How do I tell if it is one of the 07.5 to 09 engines that EFI is supporting, (ie CM2100 ?) ?

    VIN ?
    CPL number ?
    Truck build date ?
    Engine build date ?

If my engine is not supported by EFI, what would stop me from swapping on an earlier ECM ?

Have any of the engine mechanical components changed from 07.5 to, say, 2010 ?

    Thanks

If you're not using the 68rfe tranny for your swap, you could probably use an earlier ecm. The ECM and TCM are all in one unit on the 07.5+. If I were doing a swap like you are, I wouldn't be afraid to use a 06 or 07 5.9 ecm.

Wouldn't the tables and electronics be wrong for the 6.7 if I used a 5.9 ECM ? For example, how would it control the VGT ? And the 6.7 fuel rail uses a 30KPSI sensor instead of the 5.9 sensor. ????

Good point on the VGT. I assumed you were going to use a bigger single or even compounds. You can tune around that fuel rail sensor I think.

that ecm will not work on the 6.7... Trans and Eng ar eon different controllers as well.

Will any 6.7 ECM work on any 6.7 engine, or are there year to year hardware or sensor differences (that cannot be programmed around) ?

Just to update, this statement isn't correct.

FYI, all the CM2100 6.7s use the Powertrain Control Module to control the 68 RFE. The PCM is the brain for the gasser engines, but on the CM2100 6.7 diesels, it runs the transmission. And that is all it does. I've verified this in the shop manual and in the schematics.

However, on the CM2200 6.7s, it is my understanding (have not verified it with the schematics) that the Cummins ECM runs the engine and the transmission. The PCM is not involved at all.

07-09 6.7L used the CM2100 ECM, it controls engine only. They also had a trans computer (TCM), known as the NGC4, this is essentially a 5.7L HEMI gasser PCM with just trans controls.
2010+ used the CM2200 PCM, this controls both engine and transmission from the same computer.
    Terminology lesson:
    ECM - Engine Control Module
    TCM - Transmission Control Module
    PCM - Powertrain Control Module.
If a computer controls the engine and trans then it's classed as a PCM.

The 5.9L computer technically should be called a PCM because it does both engine and trans, but, it has never been called that so we weren't about to try to change the world and confuse everyone.
I no longer monitor the forum, please either post your question or create a support ticket.
