    Default 01 upgrading OS

    Hello all,
I'm new to efi live and Diesel Tunning but have done a lot of different research in defferent places. As stated i have an 01 with os 15188873. I have made small adjustments just testng waters taking it slow and easy. (looking for a good mileage but 80ish hp tune) From what i have seen others say it sounds that the early 01 and 02 os are laggy and have some gliches. I am looking to upgrade to the late 02 (6006 os) or later. I know the 04 has the (4044 os). I guess I'm looking for advise for which one to switch to or what one can I? Can i switch to any LB7 os? Thanks

6006 will go right in with no issues. If you go to a 4044 then you have to make sure it is set up for your style A/C and other options or else it may not fully function. For 01-02 it is best to go to a 6006.

Is the 6006 refered to as a late 02 os? All i need to do then is copy maps over and change vin to match the truck correct? Thank you again!

Yes, copy the VIN over, set the speedo, and adjust the fuel tank sizes if needed, and do a full flash. Keep in mind once you do it, you cannot go back to an 01 OS(it will corrupt the change engine oil life monitor so that it will always say change engine oil). Many of the tables are scaled different between the 01 and early 02 VS the late 02 6006, so keep that in mind as early tunes don't always script over.

Figured it out..... Had to do some more reading. Right click on the tune tool icon from your desktop and click "Run as Administrator". Worked flawless and it's a whole different truck with the 6006 os.

Yep, the 6006 is ALOT smoother than the 01 OS ever could have hoped to have been in mine. Since I'm not worried about the change engine oil message, I swapped back to the 01 one day and couldn't believe how poor it ran and responded compared to the 6006 02. The 01 was alot easier to get full fueling and make power, but the 02 does it so much cleaner and smoother, with driveability the 01 could never do for me. Then again I didn't spend alot of time messing around with the 01 OS after reading Tony's advice about upgrading to the 6006. I've had others do the 02 upgrade and tehy all commented on how much smoother it was at idle, and how much cleaner it ran.

    Hello!
I have early LB7 and recently moved back to (15188873), 01887305 dsp5 os , from 6006 and had no issues with engine oil life ,and truck is running fine. Reason to this is I bought dsp5 tune from well know tuner , and he says to me 6006 wont work in 01 trucks
anybody have idea what might be the errors with 6006 in a 01 trucks??

    thanks!

The 6006 works great in 01 trucks. I've done a few, and many big name tuners won't even bother with the 01 OS anymore as it is just to unpredicteable. The change engine oil message is a KNOWN issue, and even printed in the EFILIVE tutorial. You may have gotten lucky, but I know of more than 1 who has this issue from going from an 02+ OS to an 01 OS. I'm sure mine is that way as well, but I don't have a DIC in mine to tell me so I could care less.

I have an 01 that i upgraded to the 6006 and it was night and day different. I should probably know this but how much hp does a stock 01 have??? I thought it was 300 but looking at some different websites about the lb7 it says like 235 in 01 and 300 in 04. So did the 01 only actually have 235hp? As far as i know all the tables are the same in the stock form between the 2 but is there a hp gain if you upgrade the 01 and 02's to the late 6006?
