    Default Updating Efilive

I've had Efilive since about 2009 I think but never used it.
I used the scantool only then loaned box to a friend to tune his truck.
Since then I have used as a scantool when needed using my ATUSB adapter and a provided registration key.

Now I have the box back so I can datalog a build using the wideband inputs.

I've already updated the software, but do I need to update the firmware on the box as well?
It is EFILive V2 commercial, and still has original 2 licenses also.

If you use it as a 'laptop connected' scanner, then I "think" it may work OK (depending on the current version of the EFILive software you have). However...

    • It is always advisable to match the firmware and EFILive software versions.
    • Having non matching V2 firmware and EFILive software will most likely break BBL / BBF functionality.
    • I think the latest version of EFILive requires a Boot Block update on the V2.
    • About 3 firmware releases ago, a fix was introduced to prevent V2 Boot block / Firmware corruption if the SD card was ejected mid log. This is a pretty important fix to apply if you BBL at all.

Updating the V2 BB and FW is pretty easy though.

What about the stuff that is being restricted to US now in diesels or because of epa stuff,I read something on a forum about limiting the software or hardware somehow.
If I want to keep that stuff should I even update or keep the old software/firmware?
It's not that I don't plan to eventually use it,I just haven't any need now since it doesn't work for any of my GM's.
I'll search for a faq on it as well, thanks.

That has not been implemented yet, EFILive has made it VERY clear they will announce the restriction well in advance before it is implemented.

Id go ahead and update, once the version that has the DPF delete stuff removed is posted, then you can decide whether to stay with the latest DPF-enabled release or go to the DPF-disabled release.
