Default EFILive V7.5 Hanging When Starting Up or Shutting Down

Some EFILive customers have reported that if FlashScan V2 is connected to the computer when starting the EFILive V7.5 Tuning Tool the green progress meter gets part way across and then hangs, or that when exiting the V7.5 Scan Tool the software hangs and will not close. The customers have also reported that disconnecting FlashScan from the computer's USB port will unfreeze the software and allow it to continue.

The following table is a list of the configurations that have been reported to EFILive on which the problem occurs.
    Code:

Make Type CPU OS Bits USB

    Lenovo Laptop Intel Win7 64 3.0
HP Pavilion Laptop AMD Vista 64 2.0
    HP G62 Notebook AMD Win7 64 2.0
Asus Desktop AMD XP 32 2.0
    Acer Laptop AMD Win7 64 3.0
    HP Laptop AMD Win7 64 3.0
    HP Desktop AMD Win8 64 2.0

If you are experiencing the hanging problem described above and your computer details are not listed (or are incomplete) in the list above, please post the details in this thread or send them to me via private message (to blacky).
We are working with FTDIChip (the company that makes the USB components for FlashScan) to try and resolve the issue. The more information we can gather the sooner we can determine the cause of the problem and then a solution.

    Regards
    Paul

    Update June: 06, 2013
FTDI have suggested trying the following work around:
    • First connect FlashScan to a USB 2.0 port on the same machine - it can then be moved to a USB 3.0 port. (Note: USB 2.0 ports are usually black, USB 3.0 ports are blue).
    • Updating the host controller driver may also help.
    • Windows 8 should not have this problem since it uses a Microsoft supplied driver.

Please try the top two options and report back the success or failure in this thread.
Also if anyone is using Win8 and has the hanging problem , please report that.

    Make: HP
    Type: Desktop
    CPU: AMD
    OS: Windows 8
    BIT: 64
    USB: 2.0

It will hang about half way through the green meter about 90% of the time... Usually just unplug the v2 and it finishes. Very rarely does it load the green bar all the way with no issues.

On the Windows Start menu Right click on "My Computer" (XP) or "Computer" (Vista/7) and select Properties.
Then (for XP only: select [Hardware] tab page then) click on "Device Manager".
Expand the Universal Serial Bus item and right click on the USB Host Controller entry/entries and select "Update Driver".
You should be connected to the Internet so that Windows can search its online driver database.

Or search the chip set manufacturer's web site for updated drivers.
For example I did a search on Intel's web site for the three keywords: driver usb host
    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/...r%20usb%20host
And got back a number of links, however all the links were for USB 3.0 host controllers. Effectively telling me that there is no updated driver for the USB 2.0 host controller on my system.

You can't downgrade the firmware. What part of your setup is not available due to the hanging issue?
If you disconnect FlashScan and then reconnect it the software will start up.

It is telling us in the About, "License: Commercial Scan&Tune as well as Restricted to: Personal Scan&Tune (no cable)" so we can't perform a write entire. If we load a normal calibration file the Read and Write Calibration icons in the upper tool bar are lit, but not the Write Entire. If we try and load a Custom OS (which is how we found the problem), none of the 3 icons are lit in the tool bar....

Also if you try and flash a calibration, the setup hangs at Auto Detect Interface....The entire computer hangs and when you try and close the window, the response is "EFI Live not responding" and either remove the cable or you have to restart the PC to get out of it.

Yes, pulling the cable allows the software to startup, but the above is the result. Also if you monitor Device Manager you see the EFI Live USB added and removed as you insert/disconnect the cable. Also if you check the status it says device is operating ok.

To stop the hang and restricted issue, we perform a System recovery to the point prior to the upgrade (before the FDTI upgrades) and the cable restriction goes away, but of course the latest firmware isn't compatible with that build.

Really need some help by Monday...know you guys are working hard to fix this. Just want to get back to the old setup until you work out the issues.

    Thanks,

    Ed M

What V7.5 version and build number do you want/need to go back to?
I will check if that version is compatible with the latest firmware and if it is I will re-issue that firmware and tag it compatible with that version of V7.
