When using EFILive what does it display for the PCM Operating System Number?
If it displays 19980100 or 19980200 or 19970200 then you have one of the "older PCMs". If it displays anything else then yes we will support it.

In light of recent "announcements" we are looking at creative ways to license (market speak for lock) the product to be fair to everybody.

Yes you will need to upgrade your hardwre interface. We will offer a "changeover" service for existing EFILive customers. The changeover price has not been decided but will be cheaper by far, than any other product currently available or about to be available.

Locking will be key to my purchase choice.
Single PCM locking is unacceptable. Single
VIN means no resale value. Of the license/
lock schemes I have seen, I like TunerCat
best (they just sell you definition files, cheap)
followed by the proposition from HPTuners
(which also remains to be made ready for sale)
    which is single-platform/year lock. Forget
    Carputing.

I say, key me up and throw away the lock.
I buy the tool, I tune what I please with it.
    I don't buy no steenkin' PCM-locked Craftsman
wrench at Sears, I buy a tool that I can use
beholden to no bullshit and with a lifetime
guarantee which doesn't need to be used.

Not that I wrench on other peoples' cars,
other than close personal friends. But I'm
not having anybody tell me I can't, and
    computers are just another tool.

Naturally I'd prefer if you blew the competition
away in this dimension as well. The hardware
is your copy lock, let us roam.

working with 98's and 99's plus vin locking will be my deciding factor for buying it

it sems most likely that vin locking will be others deciding factors for buying it

I believe making the tool affordable is key...

YEs many people decide their pricing a la Hypertech and the power programmer.. If you buy a power programmer for 1 vin and that limited why wouldn't you pay 550 for a tunner for once car?

I agree with the analogy from a craftsman tool, i've said it many times and finally one more says it. I know it should be a bit more expensive but it doesn't justify to be 8x more expensive to be able to tune only a short range of cars.

I say forget carputing and do it similar to TC.

    You guys do your homework...

I wish I had all the contacts and knowledge you have, not for the $ but just for the sake of knowing!

I like efilive and I know you will come out with a good product.

I just wish TC had it out. They bring good stuff available to the public at an affordable price and sometimes that is important Not all of us have 8k for a program
