Default How to change between Stock OS on E38

    Hi all,

I have looked at various threads but haven't found an answer, hence this thread>

I have an E38 ECU with a particular OS (12612381) but want to use a different OS due to preference of the various tables (particularly the torque model and flex fuel capability)

How can I effectively change the OS on an E38 ECU?

The way I think best to achieve this would be to download the desired file from AC Delco and flash with Tech 2 which I can do but haven't attempted.
If I do change the OS will the ECU need a new EFILive licence? Is there any other way to achieve the same outcome without bricking the ECU and/or needing to purchase a new licence?

    Cheers

The license is tied to the ECM.

That looks like a Holden OS ... used in 2007 and / or 2008. Guessing the E38 service number is 12597121 (2007).

If this is the case, then compatible OS will probably be limited to the 2007 / 2008 model year.

Nooo, don't do this, the OS years aren't interchangeable on the E38's, if you put a later OS in to the 12612381 based ECM you will end up corrupting it which can result in a no start situation that cannot be recovered.
EFILive has safeguards that won't allow you to do this, but TIS / TechII does not, it will happily put the wrong OS in an corrupt your ECM.
Have a look over this document:

    Thanks for the info guys.
I hope this helps others out too, I never realised there were so many compatible OS's for each service number.
I just hope I find what I need in a compatible tune or else I'll be looking for a 08 onwards ECU (mine's an 06)

    Again, Thanks

    Mark

That still won't help Mark, the VZ (you said 06) is not a CAN based vehicle, the VE is, an 08 ECM in the VZ isn't possible.

My car is a VE Clubsport R8 Early series 1 (Build 355).
It's currently an E38 12612381. I think the later OS (particularly the 12624402) is a better ECU to work with.

I've done some work on the E40 too and it's easy to see why they weren't in production long, they're finicky PITA's in my opinion.

To confirm, service number 12612384 correlates to '08 ECUs and will be compatible with 12624402?

What did you want to do with the torque model tables?

And I thought all E38 OS's (Oz based) were flex fuel capable, it just wasn't enabled in the tune till Series II vehicles. My 12607218 OS certainly has Flex Fuel tables in it, just not turned on. It also has the AFM tables, but not enabled and no engine loom to support it.

The Torque tables have different coefficient tables. As I don't know which way to adjust them, it's easier to copy them from a similar .tun file.
The 12624402 is for an LS7 (W427) and the torque tables work well for my setup. On my existing tune only 7 of the 12 coefficients are multiplied in the same fashion.
One the other hand, I have worked the current OS to a satisfactory outcome, just think I prefer the later OS
