    Default 4L60E to 4L80E DTC Settings

    I'm going to be swapping in a 4L80E into my 01 Silverado 5.3L 2WD. I started by doing a segment swap from the trans calibration and trans diagnostics from an 02 Silverado 6.0L 4L80E tune.

    I noticed that there are quite a few differences in the DTC settings for the transmission between the 60E and 80E tunes. Most of the 80E DTC settings are "Non Emissions" while many of the 60E DTC settings are "2 Trips: Emissions Related". Some DTC's are not reported for the 60E and are reported for the 80E, and vice versa.

    Should I go ahead and use all of the 80E DTC settings that are related to the transmission?

    If you are using a 4L80 transmission in the vehicle, and running a 4L80 tune (not a reworked 4L60 tune with a relay) - then run the 4L80 diagnostics (DTC settings).

    If needed, you could adjust these as necessary for your specific application - but this is generally not required.

    Thanks Taz. I do plan on using a true 4L80E segment, not the 60E segment+relay.

    By "DTC Settings" I am referring to those in the Engine Diagnostics section (C6001 and C6002).

    As for the the "Transmission Diagnostics" (E0101 - E0104) I am planning on using them exactly as they came from the 80E tune (except for turning off the pressure fault enablers for the MAF codes since I'm running MAFless).

    Misunderstood the question ... my apologies.

    Yes - set P0700 through P0785 to 4L80 parameters.

    Ok cool.

    I also switched P0502, P0503, P1810, P1860, P1870, P1875 to "Non Emissions" per the 80E tune. They are set to "2 Trips Emissions Related" in the 60E tune. I'm guessing this is okay?

    Yes, that is ok.

    ( Non-Emissions functions the same as 1-Trip with the exception it bypasses the readiness monitor logic;
    if any of those DTC's are used by a readiness monitor, then bypassing that logic will prevent that monitor from ever coming ready;
    none of the transmission DTC's are used by the readiness monitors, so you should be ok.

    Thanks Joe!

    One more dumb question. Most (if not all) of the 4L80E transmission related DTC's are set to "No MIL". Can I set these to "MIL" so that the SES light will turn on when there is a transmission code? Or is there more to it than that?

    If there is an issue with the trans then I would sure like to know about it.
