You can advise sales@efilive.com of your serial number etc.
But you can pretty much just start using it. You might need to buy a license if its full, or upgrade it if you need the commercial version. Once you install the software and connect to it you should be able to get the licensing details off it.
I trust you actually bought the hardware cable with the LED's etc and not just the software?
    Get EFILive in europe (http://www.efilive.eu).

When you bought it, did he give you the license key that goes with the cable hardware...?

If he used up all the PCM licences (these are in addition to the license key), you'll have to buy one or more of these also.

The software is free and is not sellable.

    Congrats!
Download and install the latest version of software from www.efilive.com

Plug in the black box to your PC.

Launch the Tuning tool and go to Help>Flaschscan licensing

and see if you have any licenses available.

If not then go to the EFILive online store and purchase a couple. ($99.00 ea) You will need a license file in order to flash your vehicle. You can however read out the code or data log as many vehicles as you wish without any available licenses.

Have fun, and welcome to the club!

He'll still need a software license key that is unique to the cable's serial number.

    Why?

Won't the box work in any computer you plug it in to? I've run my cable on many different computers without entering in the reg key.

If you go to "Help>Flashscan licensing" with the box plugged in it will display the serial number and the level of the cable.

The reg key is for running Flashscan without the box plugged in, to avoid the dreaded "Demo" mode.

Interesting. I would have said the exact same thing as 'joecar'.

When you have the cable connected and it recognises that you have a certain level of cable does it actually update the 'My Documents\EFILive\V7\User Configuration\License.txt' file?

To test it just rename that file and plug your box in and see if it works.
