Default Octane scalar or knock learn factor help please

I'm trying to see at what ratio the computer is referencing low octane vs high octane ignition timing. I loaded up an octane scalar pid through bbx in the scan and tune software. When I attempt to log or view on the car, I get an error message about the pid not being supported. The handheld tells me to deselect it, and won't let me see any pids until I reprogram to remove the octane scalar.

Anyone know the right way to view this data?

Have you selected the correct PID for your ECM?

I am using E38.OCTSCL_DMA to log octane scaler on my E38 ECM.

    Tabio,

Which pid(s) are you trying to log...? Which ECM do you have...?

Sorry I forgot to include that. E67 ecu. I'm trying to log octane scalar which is named OCTSCL_M and is described as EST - Octane Scalar.

Look at the the pids with names beginning with "E67." and "E38.".

I don't see any. Maybe I am doing it wrong.

Try connecting to car and revalidating the pids. There is a chart with a check icon on the second line of the scan upper command line.

Just as a followup, I have found that the Octane Scalar value is like the cockroach....no matter how long or how many reflashes, it never seems to decrement to 0. Kinda of tough in the early stages of tuning. So I increase the Octane Scalar Decrement (B1929 for example) value by 100 (multiply) or more so the Hi/Lo spark table interaction doesn't effect the tuning session. .5 will get it to decrement almost instantly :-). You can accomplish the same thing by setting the Hi/Lo tables the same similar to the LS1 Speed Density days as well. When the tuning is done I put back half or so of what I added for delivery.

Apparently this value wioll decrement very slowly waiting for the "bad gas" situation to be resolved. Not sure if it resets automatically on a fill up?

Alright I still can't get it to work. I tried finding it through the bbx on the v8 software and the only one that pops up is the one I mentioned before. And I know that one doesn't work. I don't know how to search for or validate pids in v8.

I validated pids in v7.5, but no octane scalar to be found.

    Any suggestions?
