Default How To Get Correct A/F Ratio

    Hello

I come from a turbo gasser tuning background and the wideband (Air/Fuel) ratio is the center of all tuning parameters. I know on diesel it kind of works backwards in that less fuel is not necessarily a bad thing as it would be in a gasser.

I was wondering how you go about scaling fueling in the diesel world (I have yet to see a wideband). I have been told by a few that you watch the tail pipe for black smoke but coming from the gasser world this seems less then optimal.

Is A/F ratio important and what tools are used in dialing in the fuel tables.

    Thanks in advance

Correct, no wideband O2's in this world so throw that targeted 12.5 AFR (N/A) out the window. For street tunes tailpipe is one way to tell if you have a good clean tune but for max effort your going to have dirty exhaust. Some excess fuel can actually help keep EGT's down by wicking away heat.

You can tune a diesel with a wideband. Diesel dont run anywhere near the same afr as gas though.
