Default DVT or AutoVE Open loop

I have to admit, i have been cheating while tuning my E38 ecm. I leave the car in normal operating parameters, and use the trim to adjust the VE and MAF.

Yes it gets you close enough, but my fuel consumption is through the roof sometimes.

I am wondering, if i disable the Maf set the PE to 14.7 then use the DVT to force open loop isnt that the same as doin all the parameters of the AutoVe?
