Hold down the Ctrl button on FlashScan when connecting it to USB power. (Do not have the OBD cable connected).
This will power FlashScan without the display and the second and fourth lights will flash in unison.
Open V8 Scan and Tune software.
Open EFILive Explorer using the button at the top of the screen.
Select the [F12: Firmware] option in EFILive Explorer.
Hit the Browse button and select the FlashScan firmware. The file name will commence with FSProgV2.
    And select Program.

    Cheers

plugged flashscan into computer (nothing else pluggged in to the flashscan), blank screen is lit up, none of the lights are blinking, holding the cntrl button down does nothing.

The blank blue screen when FlashScan is connected to the PC indicates that the PC USB drivers are not communicating with FlashScan correctly which means FlashScan can't fully power up via just the USB connection. So until that gets resolved (later in this thread) you'll need to perform the following tasks while FlashScan is connected to your vehicle via the OBDII cable.

Connected FlashScan to a vehicle and select the options:
F4 Options -> F3 About... -> F1 Firmware Details, then press the down arrow to scroll down to the boot block version (the last entry). It should show V2.07.007. If it does not report that fact back here and I'll explain the sterps required to upgrade the boot block. If it does show V2.07.007 then continue with these instructions.

    Then, as described here: https://support.efilive.com/kb_artic...9131-UZCN-1168

Unplug FlashScan from all connections so it is not powered up. leave it un-powered for 30 seconds.
Then before plugging it back in to the vehicle, press and hold both the F1 and F3 buttons. While holding down those buttons, connect FlashScan to the vehicle. That will reset FlashScan to factory defaults. If that fixes the problem, then you need to save the rest values by selecting the option: F4 Options -> F1 Setup -> F1 Edit Settings, then while the display is on "File sys:", press the right arrow key to change the value at least one time, then keep pressing the right arrow key to set the value to "Auto". That will trigger the FlashScan firmware to save the settings permanently when you press OK. So press OK now to save the settings. The blue LED should illuminate as the settings are being saved.

Reboot FlashScan (disconnect/reconnect power) to ensure that it will continue to work as expected.

I highly recommend installing the latest software available here:

That should resolve any USB driver issues.

    Regards

Thanks Blacky. I'll try this before sending it for repair, but none of the "F" keys were responding when I last had it connected.

Well, that did not work. None of the keys are doing anything.
